Advice: Close protection operation

Hi guys, according to you, in a close protection operation, do you think that you have to inform the hotel manager or the restaurant manager that you and your client are staying in his hotel/restaurant? Do you think you have to inform him? Do you think he needs to know about your visit? And if it's so, don't you think that probably could be an harm or dangerous about informing him for your client safety?

MrHide,

It would depend on a few factors....

For instance is the client a celebrity or one than would be recognised by fans or the public?

Does your client mind or want to be approached by fans etc / Or do they want to be left alone for a meal/ drink?

Is the hotel one which you and the client use often and therefore have a good relationship with?

Most hotels I visit with clients, we have great relations with the management and I would speak to manager & chef and arrive via the service lift come through the kitchen to a reserved table away from the general public if so desired.
Alternatively we could use room service.

So it depends on client desire, let's suppose he's been threatened or he wants to be confidential and private? Let's fake he 's US President :) What would you do? Would you tell the restaurant/hotel/ manager about your visit? Would you inform him (to be noticed you don't know the manager)? Would you go to talk to him to write down your operational plan knowing the client wants to go there?

Thanks

As I see it:

You don't need to inform of your operational plan, as you have been told it depends, but one thing is to inform: "hello, dear sir, we have a team protecting a guy in room/table... and would appreciate to know about your contingency plans, emergency exists, security on place... thank you!"

The other is plain silly, telling anyone outside the team your plan means losing the plan.

Before going to any hotel or restaurant you will do some scouting and if the place has a service will/would notice you. Therefore it is good to let things flow and show respect for other professionals allowing them to know that they are not facing a regular day/night at their venue but sharing the ground with your team.

Just imagine what would you do if something happens in your venue and nobody told you about a vip or whoever; treat everyone as potential trouble, isn't it? On the other hand if something happens and you know that there is another team on place you can concentrate your effort on the regular visitors and leave that team deal with their protected one, plenty of times your best decision would be exfil the vip... from your venue asap to deactivate any mess, if his own team can do that just with one of your guys leaves you almost undamaged to respond to any situation.

PS: I may be wrong, still just a faulty human being.

MrHide,

I would do whatever my client wanted that's it, we facilitate their choices.
And if it was a political figure the hotel would have prior knowledge of our arrival, it would more or less a sterile environment.
To that end this is a futile discussion!

Tell me what would you do, with a non political client who is the wife of a famous actor or music artist,
The task is to leave residence meet with friends for some shopping then on to a hotel to to check in prior to an evening meal and theatre visit?

I feel like I'm doing an assignment or homework for you.

Giovanni i didn't tell that i want to telle the manager my operational plan, i meant to write the operational plean, have you to inform the manager about your visit? this is the question and not to let the manager know about the operational plan, i was wondering if it was right to inform him about the visit and not about the operational plan. Anyway you answered my question, so i just need to talk to him about his contingency plans, emergency exists, security on place. Got it.

Thanks Giovanni
