Anubis Associates CP course review

Thought it was about time to write a very brief review on this course i recently completed with a view to not exactly blow smoke up its rear end but to tell it like it is and advise those (especially service leavers deciding on which course to do) what it is like.

Anubis are the preferred option for Resettlement through the CTP. This has many advantages in that the CTP look after you pretty well and take care of all the nitty gritty of booking the course etc. Also it is not the prefered supplier for any old reason which this brief review will hopefully reveal.

The course Anubis runs is a well organised, well thought out and planned, highly professional one. All the instructors are second to none in their experience, knowledge, professionalism and no-nonsense approach to the industry. They are also extremely good to get along with, not on any ego trips and there to give you help on passing on their extensive knowledge and helping you to pass.

The FAAW package is also excellent and goes into a little more above and beyond what is required such as AED which i know for a fact civilians take an extra day to do (and at cost).

The facillity used is a top class, self-contained barn complex, excellent accomodation and food in a friendly, homely atmosphere.

Top class training aids and vehicles are used throughout and the exercises are realistic, well thought out and will confirm in practice all classroom based work taught.

Overall i was well pleased to have attended and passed the course and feel the benefit of the instruction provided and fully recommend anyone to do it - particularly service leavers who it is well suited to. I didnt end up paying anything for the course really due to using my ELC and claiming food and accomodation and expenses back.

Hope this is of use to someone.

I did the course last year and agree 100%. I had my nose put out by being told what course to do as I just got back from Iraq. But was glad I did.

Instructors? Dont think it would be appropriate to name anybody on here do you? The course review and their mention should suffice.

If Geoff was one of them and you get to speak to him again, tell him ''The guy who's head he sprayed green at Lippits says Hi.''

Anubis, Ressettlement etc

Hi Steve,

I will soon be in the same situation as you are/were in, leaving the Forces and getting a career in CP.

I have hundreds if questions running through my head, if it's ok with you i'd like to prioritise them and ask you a few.

Steve i have 22mths left in the forces, have done my CTW at Herford Germany and am now left with the decisions on what CP Cse to attend, more so what courses can i try and get through the Army whilst i'm still serving. have you any ideas?

I was thinking about the Anubis Cse, could you tell me what plan and preperation to do before attending the Cse, (ie what to read up on)

Steve have you had any luck yet with a job?

I hope you don't think i'm jumping on you with these questions, as i've heard the best way to get into this trade is to Network.

Steve i'm not even sure if i can claim back food & accom being based in Germany?

Steve any help you can aid me with would be greatly appreciated, and of course if you ever need help with something don't hesitate to ask.

Yours sincerely

Vito, Hi 22 months is a long time to plan what you want to do regarding your resettlement but remember the time will fly by - also you will have about 6 months off to take all your resettlement time, annual leave and termination leave etc. I did a 'chuff chart' and planned every single day.

My first choice for my CP course was Phoenix since they offer interviews at the end of the course for employment with G4S who have now subsumed Armour Group. It is also hostile environment training too which Anubis (even though it is a fantastic course do not offer). Saying that as long as you have military expereince which you do have then Anubis's course is brilliant and well worth doing. You wil not go wrong whatsoever with that course and the review i made above still stands. I think doing the course with phoenix though may open up an easier route into CP for you.

You dont need to read up on anything prior to the course and probably best not to. The instruction is top notch and you dont need any prior knowledge. Just make sure you have a good, honest CV prepared for your mock interview which will save you some time over your weekend off. I did a FAAW course prior to it but you dont need to since you do a FAAW with the course if you need to. Dont forget that you have SLC which you can use and ELC the latter i presume you will be using for the CP course. Use the SLC for any little courses you want to do to keep your options open if you dont get into CP. I did an NVQ assessor course for example.

You can claim back food and accomodation from germany and it actually reduces the course cnsiderably in cost. What you need to do is put in an advance on JPA for the food and accomodation costs - its all broken down on the link via the Resettlement centre website on the course details (get the clerks to help you with the JPA) which will get you the money to pay in conjunction with your ELC. You then need to 'close the loop' with the food and accomodation (subsistence) when you get back because it came out of my account again afterwards which you need to pay attention to. Dont let anyone say you cant claim food and accomodation back because you can.

Yes i have now got a job with G4S and deploy to Afghanistan in two weeks after sending my CV off on numerous occasions. When you have your CP course under your belt and closer to your termination you can start doing the same. You will need to be really dedicated to this as some companies all you do is get automated responses and indeed G4S do too but you just need to keep onto them because they get 1000s of CVs.

Think i have answered everything, if not just ask away again and good luck. Its hard to get into.

Just to reitterate all that Steve has said, finished my Anubis course a couple of months ago. No big, 'i am' attitudes even though they would be entitled to them and very honest, helpful guys.
DON'T go on the course if you want to blat rounds down a range in a far away land, personally I reckon my past has prep'd me sufficiently for that, plus, if you are fortunate enough to get a job for a larger reputable company overseas, it is my belief that they would require you to do their range package first anyway.

Anubis

Having now deployed to Afghanistan with G4S i can safely say that it did not matter that i completed the Anubis course over any other and that the Anubis course did not teach any hostile environment training whatsoever.
In retrospect i think doing an hostile environment course would have been better considering that is where i wanted and indeed ended up deploying to but it has not done me any harm. G4S conducts a further induction package which teaches the firearms they issue you with. Driving and basic CP drills are also covered. I am receiving further training still from my TL in theatre.
So doing an hostile environment course is not essential though would be beneficial for that extral bit of expereince it gives you since Anubis's course is tailored i think for the UK type CP industry, but doing this course has not done me any harm whatsoever. A person with the required military expereince can fit into hostile environment CP with relative ease once you have done the basics.

Well, as the word 'Anubis' is the Greek name for a jackal-headed god associated with mummification and the afterlife in Egyptian mythology I wish you much luck in the pit.

Steve

I have read throught the full post and am greatful to all for there information sharing. I have recently terminated after 15 yrs service and am currently researching hard both into employment and courses. The information gained from the site is invaluable and if i may could i ask how you found sending out your CV process? With persistance i take it you mean send your CV wait and follow up with phone calls etc.

It seems your now settled into the environment and role with G4S, could you give me any guidance/direction or tips on your processes for sending out your CV and also how your experiences have developed?. In advance i thank you for reading this tread.

Monty

Its hard getting into the industry mate - i have sent (and continue to do so) my CV to numerous companies who do not even acknolwedge its receipt - so choosy they can be nowadays (although i do believe it is unprofessional of them not to get back to you).
The best way of getting your CV to the attention of companies is to get hold of the HR Administrator's direct email addresses since this is how I believe i got their attention.
There are some companies who are better than others, some pay more but with different rotations and advantages and disadvantages with all. Keep trying mate

Don't forget, if you are any good on the course, the better providers let you know when they hear about openings or have their own jobs available, I got an email from Janet at Anubis just last week.
