Hello,

perhaps someone here can help me out?

I am looking to emigrate to Australia, as my partner has secured a decent job out there starting in 2014.

so, I will be wanting to find work in western Australia, and yes I qualify for work visas so don't worry about that,

therefore i would like to know firstly, if my FPOSi certification is valid in Australia, and if not who is responsible for dealing with first aid training?

I have seen St Johns runs courses, however is there anything higher?

Any help welcome

thanks

Yes most course "competencies" are transferable in Australia, but its rare to get a whole course transferred because of the system of RPL/RCC (recognition of prior learning and recognition of current competencies) is paper/tick list heavy.

I am neither defending nor criticising the system, but just be aware the First Aid courses here have just changed competency units again. At FPOS equivalency, it may be better to look at Remote First Aid (health training package) or Wilderness First Aid (outdoor recreation training package) but be prepared to do some bridging course/units, and you may find they are pish compared to your FPOS, but love/hate it, thats the system.

Your other option is Cert 4 or Diploma in EMT out here, but I hear this is more Ambo/pre-cursor to Paramedic degree, and has become obsolete out here. Rarely run, but some PDs still list it (such as mines/oil rigs)

Straight forward Level 3/OHS First Aider is still run, and this is a manage big bleeds and complex CPR course but certainly has no remote aspect to it. Additionally with the recent change to training packages here, it is hard to know if this qualification is even correctly titled, and unfortunately even St Johns/Red Cross are a little lost on the subject.

If you want any info on ex-mil or understanding RTOs (Registered Training Organisations) to talk to, let me know, but google will be your friend.
