Here is some sound advice...

1. Go and get 3 quotes, pick up the phone.

2. Attend a business start up course... extend business the same courtesy as you would any other profession including CP, SG anything else... Seek some Training...

Self employed

Hi,

Similar boat myself - you should expect accountants to be about £500 pa but shop around. You won't need to pay much until year end because they all want your business so 30-60 mins advice at start up is available.
Just like a brief.
You can claim the equivalent of job seekers allowance AFTER six months as part of the new enterprise initiative. You can claim full for 3 months and half for further 3 and be entitled to a grant for up to £1000 for new business.
Hope this helps

What a marvellous display of 'Enterprise'...

Enterprise Allowance can only be claimed by individuals that have already beenb receiving JSA for a minimum of 6months. And only after various hoops have been jumped through, including the submission of a worthy business plan to demonstrate a "viable" business model with "growth potential". The payment / allowance is then made weekly broadly equivolent to their previous JSA for the first 3months, then half that rate for the second 3 months. An additional £1000 loan (loan = re-payment) to cover start-up costs can also be available.

This is one of the biggest loads of tosh this Govt has come up with.
Nearly £2k is not going to set anyone up in business.
It is going to kill HMRC to sort this out on top of existing constraints.
Such funding would never be granted to an individual wanting to set-up as self employed in the CP / security sector - VIABLE / GROWTH POTENTIAL.

There are no short cuts. This is not a short cut.

On the accounts front. Whittacker & Co have a good package for the self-employed; worth asking.

Not sure what you referred to there. Anyway get in touch if you have guys / interest re the Spooks adventures

I'll tell you what Pat... I'll let you work it out for yourself mate once you have looked up the definition of 'Enterprise' coupled with the relationship of self-employment and being entrepreneurial..? :)

Good effort King... well done mate... and like any course mate some will go right over your head, most will hit you right in the face and the rest of the chaff will fall at your feet... Good luck buddy..! CD

I use Whittaker & Co. They usually attend the annual CPW events and specialise in the security industry. They don't charge much more than £200 a year and the service is top notch. I'm not being paid to say that and don't have shares in them either. Just happy to give them a quick plug as they are very good at what they do.

The more basic arithmetic and filing you can do, the less the bookkeeper has to do, the less the accountant has to do.

....the less you have to pay.

Unless you're inadvertently succesful and have to justify the mileage on the company Bentley... :)
