Couple of questions regarding the CVIT industry

Alright gents,

I'm 18 years old and currently unemployed (although, training to be a soldier within the territorial army - 23sas). Ex-competitive bodybuilder, study nutritional science and keep very fit and strong.

No qualifications.. but not completely thick!

I'm wondering would I be old enough to be considered for a role? I know I must be 18 years old to get the licence but in the real world, would I be looking at potential employment?

I don't have a drivers licence.. would this hinder me?

Whats the pay like? I live in Glasgow.

Chances of getting attacked and action I'd be allowed to take?

Oh and what are the hours like? 9-5?

Thanks gents.

Hi Ryand,

Your post covers many questions and areas. My advice, and I will be gentle, is the following:

Get a driving licence.

If you wish to join the TA look at a local unit to you and make sure it is one that suits you and is likely to provide the experience which will help you i.e. lots of training and deployments. Do not disregard the other Services Reserve Forces.

You need to prove you can work as a member of a close knit team under difficult conditions. Your post does not mention this BUT that is the experience you need in the Security world.

Age is on your side but talk of joining the SAS without other military experience will not be viewed as realistic by most who read this. To be blunt your chances of success with SF are too low. Go TA Infantry and springboard from there if SF remains your dream. I do not knock your ambitions.

The hours depend on the job but rest assured they will be long and testing whatever you do, especially as you are starting out.

I wish you all the luck in the world. Regards......Nippy

CVIT work without a drviers licence and under 25 (insurance both for vehicles and carrying money over the pavement) is very hard indeed enven though you only need to be 18 to get the SIA lience itself. That bit makes very little sence to me.

Hours within CVIT are notoriously bad with runs starting from 4-9 in the morning and ending when every finish your run which could be over Monday - Sunday. The biggest problem that you will come up against with your TA career and I found it myself is that of 'drivers hours'. Even if you manage to get a job in CVIT as not driving role (warehouse, vault staff, drivers mate etc...) in most CVIT companies everyone is bound by 'drivers hours' and a lot will not look favourably on the TA activites or second jobs - to the point where they could take diciplinary acton and if it one of the companies run by the Unions, it's even worse as you have no say in what you do.

My advise - forget CVIT if SF/TA/Mil is your dream, get a 9-5 admin/flexible job that ties in well with your TA career or better still join the Regs and make it your full time job.

Good luck with whatever you decide - don't be put off by advise as at the end of the day it is only advise!

Stay safe

Thanks for the reply gents.

I can't imagine a few hours a week would hurt with the ta? If it would then I'm.not.too fussed at the moment as I'm not particularly interested in dedicating to the army anyway.

I've heard guys are walking out with 400 a week.doing.this, is this right?

Also, I don't mind ridiculously early starts, its the ends I'm.more.concerned about. Would I be expected to.come.home late? You say 'depends.on the job', how long typically does a particular job last before you switch up your Rota.

What licence should I get, just a car one?

At my current stage, how likely is it I'll land a job in.my current situation (no licence, no qualifications etc)

Bit of a pattern forming here Ryand.
Different worded question but receiving the same answer.

Different worded question? If you're referring to my other topic in the door supervisors section, its a different question all together nor am I receiving the same answer. As you can see from the responses here, the CVIT license would be pointless for me, then hop back to the other topic - the door supervisors license wouldn't.

Edit to say thanks to the responses above, thought I already did.. sorry!

If you say so mate I mean what do I know?
You've asked a couple of questions and you didn't like the answers you got.
The truth is your too young and inexperienced to make a good DS or CVIT at this moment in time and like it or lump it that's just the way it is. Now you seem intelligent enough to realise that I am in fact trying to help you by telling you the reality of the situation, I'm not a TP who's after your money by saying 'sure you'll land a DS job all you need to do is take my course' because that would be unfair.

I understand what you're typing to say pal, and appreciate it. I don't think I'm going to get the license and take the scene by storm. I'm hoping for something realistic for me at the moment, something that I can actually get my foot in the door with and I think thats achievable with the DS license, not the CVIT - they wouldn't take a second look at me right now from what I've read and been advised not only here, but around the web and through advisors.

I also agree with what you're saying about me being too young and inexperienced to make a good DS. I am inexperienced and 18 is young, but aslong as I can get my foot in the door I can learn and progress - even if that means not directly being on the doors, but working in the back.. or starting out with events etc first.

Also, I don't know where I've posted to make you think I dislike any answers given. I'll not just take a few people's word for it, I'll get a larger opinion and base it off that hence not pursuing the CVIT.

Like i said before mate with the right attitude and willingness to listen and learn anything is possible. Just expect a few knock backs along the way.

Nope - CVIT has it's own licence and the 'Licence Integration' doesn't cover it from another sector.
having said that it depends on what you're doing - I did a CVIT job on my CP licence as I was protecting the person carrying the goods, not the goods themselves :)
