I can't afford to have principles.
And some principals aren't prepared to pay my price.
Were the old days so different, or were they just different times and different people.
We had our walts, we had the unqualified, we had the incapables, and the bull shitters not unlike today.
We had a much smaller world of security, and word spread quick, good and bad.
There were opportunities and a pecking order, sometimes not deserved as others.
But I do lament the change, a chance was squandered, an opportunity corrupted.
I feel the industry has and will continue to fracture, many people will waste money on the likes of these sub standard courses.
They will be as the seed sown on stoney ground, they will have shallow roots, so will wither and die.
The strong will grow stronger and as with the cream they will rise.
Of this i have no doubt,
So I will not drink to a glorious past and a pitiful future, as we will be burdened with the reputation of the future as much as those who will form that reputation, be it good or bad.
History is written by those who inhabit the future.
'All bouncers were thugs'
'All BGs were untrained ex mercenaries'
'All SGs were old men standing around coal braziers'
They'll say ;
The SIA brought standards, training and registration, along with accountability.
I say form the future, then you can revel in the past.
The industry MUST police itself, be that through Guild, Union or even CPW.
I'll drink to that.
