hi all, looking at going on holiday to egypt later this year, is there anything i need to be weary of/look out for. Its a family hol so want it to be safe. Thanks

Where in egypt.

I went to sharm el shit. Most of the hotels there had security checking vehicles for bombs.
Watch for pick pockets, also if you have a young daughter keep an eye on her, most of them are peados.

I went to sharm el sheik with partner, food was spot on - only time i felt a bit dodgy was when we ate outside the hotel when we were on an excursion.

Security on all hotels - plenty of kids running around and security would always stop them if they were obviously wandering away.

Vehicle checkpoint at most hotels.

I would happily take the kids back with me.

Since the mini massacre at one of the Luxor temples a few years ago the Egyptians make a big show of security to reassure tourists.

Coach transfers from Luxor to Hurgeda are organized in convoys with armed protection. Every cruise boat on the Nile has 4 armed guards on board.

Hurghada has it's fair share of European "2 baggers" enjoying the local attractions, not quite Pattaya for the ladies though!!

I did S-E-S with my partner, airport was a feckin cluster, watch for paying too much for your visas.

Ok security at hotel, watch out for pick pockets as he says, also being dragged into shops for tea, barter like hell for everything.....

Enjoyed it, would take the kids (although mine can feck off and take themselves at their age now) just be generally aware, as always.

off to s-e-s for the 6th time in 3 weeks. security has improved over the last 5 years and like all the replies, hotel security is very good. If you are not going to leave the resort and travel outside "sinai" e.g. trip to Petra or Cairo you do not need a visa and will only be wasting your money!
for winter sun, you won,t beat it but unfortunately the football shirt and tattoo brigade are learning that as Egypt is outside the euorzone, they can have cheap lager to go with their football shirt suntans!!!!
apologies to all other tattoo wearers but we all know the type I am talking about.
food and service is excellent in 4 or 5 star hotels and the sea temp and tropical fish is worth at least one visit. Na,ama bay is a top class s**t hole and full of pickpockets and shopkeepers who will try and lure your family in for "free tea" blah blah. just tell them no or just keep walking.
