International driving permit

I will in a short space of time need a "International driving licens/permit" since i did not have the slightest idea what that could be (accept for the clues the name givs) i typed it in on google and found many sites where i could for only a few dollars/euros/puonds could have one that would be more or less a piece of papper that says whats written on my driving licens in 16 languages.
Got the feling it's a scam of some sort.

Could anyone please explaine to me what i should know about International driving licens/permit?
Are the websites that sell them a scam or something useful?
Is ther any internationaly recognised international driving licens?

And yes i have tryed the CPW search bar

A UK driving license is recognized in most countries. If you really need an international permit only those from the AA or RAC are legal. However in reality all they are is a translation of your license and have no real legal standing. Buying over the internet can get you into trouble as they are regarded as forgeries in dome jurisdictions

Thank you for your repons SCT (Space Coast?) ronald, keenieman and HL68, i hold a swedish EU driving permit that is expiered and a valid french permit wich is the one i'm currently using, the french one have all information written in french.
I will need a International driving permit becouse i intend to do some training with an Israeli TP who reqieres an international driving permit/licens, i have asked the question to the TP aswell butt have not had an answer yet, i ask the question at CPW with hope of getting an quick answer becouse i need to sort out all papperwork quickly since i will be occupied with other things for the next month or soo until the training starts.
 
Update!
It's now less urgent for me to get a International driving licens/permit since the intended training provider just contacted me and informed me that for my part the training is off.
