I have a friend who is looking into starting up a security company in Mexico and asked me if I new how the laws and regulations are there, if he needs some kind of authorization or license to start the company and to be able to use firearms.
Since I myself have no clue I was hoping that someone here could help me/him out.

Tell your friend good luck, the majority of security companies in mexico are owned and run by the drug cartels and their back hand taking police officers.
Having worked in the country on various operations I can tell you that your friend will need a deep pocket, lots of ammo and dont answer the door after dark

well thats kind of the idea to have more and bigger guns and most of all people who really know how to use them.

All licenses and regulated registrations to be operational no matter of where outside Europe costs a fortune, its nothing strange that the shitholes of the world need help and are corrupt big times. Otherwise we all would do it, but alot of the smaller companies work now and then with clients or maybe get a visa and working licens since starting a company or to set up a bransch office costs a fortune and also something to think of the money we are use to are far from great.
A couple of years I was invited to the Swedish chamber of commerce since they had a VIP from the Malaysia Government here in Gothenburg and my name had come up with the foreign department as a possible interest for security services there.
The thing was that this VIP asked for Swedish support to start with security services and training there. I had this meeting and I was also invited to travel with this female VIP to Malaysia but before I did that I had to put out 50.000 sek as an investment plan and in Malaysia I was going to attend a meeting with other security service providers etc..and the Malaysian government was going to pick the one with best opportunities to (HIRE Malaysian staff) and establish full service there.
I did ask some questions and I was told that a day salary for some one there was between 5-8 USD (yes 5 dollars) and if i did get 100 employes I could make 2000 usd a month and thats great money they told me if I live there..
Do I need to say I didnt go..
Its not possible to fight over low salary and income when its so much costs to set up. I still think there are some countries in Africa that only ask for a few thousands of dollars to get full licenses etc..but again who will pay the westerners 7-9000 usd a month no one unless sitting on a contract
It means you must employ Africans for 5-10 dollars aday and maybe charge 20..
Ive been in Saudi many times and worked and I know I would have opportunities if I was there full time but its not possible for a small company with jobs here and there..

Many times its just dreams but thats what gets us going I guess

Would you say that it´s the same in the rest of central/south america or is it that way in Mexico because of all the coruption?

Ask team 13 hes on here
If you find yourself with a contract (example know- SHELL) they need security and project security mangement and training for local guards Since no one will pay you 10s of thousands for static security in any of these shit holes (Pardon for my French)
lets say you get a contracts as site security manger and mange 10 local guards or 20..
If youre not on a huge government, help organisation contract or bigger companies youre not getting much. Ex what could your company provide in Mexico that cant be provided by locals that speak the language and have the contacts?
Why would they pay you 350 usd a day when thats a month pay for a poor static guy that is the companys Oncle? Do you see the picture?

Now if you could secure a contract in that country that provide construction, medical, oil, electricity, clean water, etc..you could get a contract with them then it might be worth setting up, but just check with the local security companies in Mexico and the south american companies what they charge an hour thats what your up against, and then do a assessment if its even worth it and I doubt that.
Just being honest, and Im sure others here agrees.
Lets say Ericsson plans to build a factory there, well then you might get alot of jobs doing risk assessments, surveys, project security mangement and train the staff when thats running after 1-2 years they will have a local security manger and no need for your services..
