MPGS Questions

Looking into MPGS and looking for some info - apologies if I should have posted this elsewhere. Just a couple of questions, Ive tried the online chat on the army website but only got answers like, 'possibly'...!

I'm particularly interested in doing dog handling in the role - I have done the handlers course and was attched to the RAVC for one of my tours in Iraq. Is this available from the outset or does it have to be requested or only available on certain sites? If so, which ones or how can I ensure Id get to do this within the role?
Ive been 3 years out, would I return onto same pay grade? Does pension just continue?
My wifes unsure about moving the wee one, do you get married unaccompanied?
Any other pointers or info would be great - thanks
 
Im keen on RAF Cosford or Shawbury. Anyone worked/lived there? Would mean a move but we would be 500 miles closer to family...
 
Just had a call from the Army Careers office saying about my paperwork to join the MPGS is now cleared and to go ahead and book a date for my Medical, I of course told them book me in asap...Does anyone know how long it takes to get booked onto the weeks MPGS course after the Medical...I know there's nothing physically wrong with me and my fitness is good.

Phone the main gate MCTC Colchester and ask them for the number for the SSgt MPS who heads up the MPGS training in Southwick Park. There was a recruitment ban on for a long time while the future of the MPGS was being decided, now that you have the green light I think you'll find that things go ahead quite quickly.

As far as I am aware you get the priviliges as the rest of the Army, however if you have an existing Army pension this will be taken into account when it comes around to being paid every month or so I was informed 5 yrs when I enquired about joining.

From what I hear the MPGS is going to loose quite a few dogs in the near future, RAVC already offering them to police forces.

Trueblue makes a good point about your pension... at one time the employment status meant that you had to give up your right to your pension at that time..?

Wonderful eh? MP's, MSP's, MEP's everyman and his f*****g dog may keep their pension, sorry 2 other pensions from the the House of commons, the Holyrood Parliament and then be paid by the House of Lords (George Faulkes) for one...

Joining the MPGS? Why anyone would want to be treated or allow themselves to be treated with such 'discrimination' is absolutely beyond me!

MPGS I did it for 2 years, never again, I'd rather poke shitty sticks in my eyes than do it again, jumped up "old school" 22 year men who still think there RSM's an the like. Id rather stag on at tesco....!

Funny that you remark on the Mad1 because a few of those old fellas tried pulling that stunt in the PSD side of the industry in the early days...

I would question why this is a military police section, MPGS are certainly not police.

After dealing with the MPGS on numerous occasions, I really do wonder how some people are still alive. Easy money I suppose.
