http://www.justgiving.com/Jonathan-FletcherMy name is JF and I am a former member of the Parachute Regiment.
My K9 Friend is 'Otto', who is a Husky X with a Black Labrador and he is 18 months old.
We are entering the 'Trophee de Montagne' race which takes place early August 2010 in the French Alps for the charity Help 4 Heroes.
Trophee de Montagne
The race consists of 11 races over 9 days over the French Alps. Each race can be between 5 , 9 or 12km and takes in some of the most breath taking scenery the French Alps can offer and is the ultimate test for man & dog with two races being also at night.
We are not intending to win the race but are aiming to finish in a respectable position and do our bit for the 'cause'.
I will be nearly 41 years old when we compete in the race with Otto being 28 (in dog years!!!) so the emphasis will be promoting the charity as It will be something different in a K9 fundraising for a charity.
The link for the Trophee de Montagne 2010 is: TDM : Bienvenue we are under compettitor number 12 you can translate into english from french.
Training
Myself & the 'Ottster' are currently preparing for the event by training in areas such as North Wales (Snowdonia) and the Pennines.
We will shortly have 'Otto Cam' which will be a camera on Otto's harness or his collar and will record our training and the races from a K9's view of the world.
We will post these training videos shortly (non edited) so you can see exactly what we will be doing to prepare for the event.
Chosen Charity
Being an ex-serviceman it was only natural that when thinking of doing something It was only going to be for H4H.
I am sure you all like me are humbled when we see the press and television reports from RAF Headley Court of the wounded girls & guys and the images from the town of Wooton Bassett when another serviceman or women has been killled.
These young men & women are all 'volunteers' who join the services of there own accord and work, fight & live in some of the most harshest conditions that we could only imagine and they are serving to make the United Kingdom & the World a safer place for our families to live in.
Please take time to donate anything, whether it is as little as possible it does not matter as everything helps.
We are hoping to raise £5,000.00 over the next year so any donation big or small is appreciated as it all helps.
I will update the page over the coming weeks with more information.
If you make a donation then please contact me via e mail address below and I will contact you personally to give mine and Otto's thanks.
