Hi guys

PGI run a 14 day security and risk management consultants course which seems to tick a lot of boxes for required industry knowledge. However, i am always cautious about shelling out for course which does not automatically lead to a job.

My background is a Royal Navy Leading medic (two Herrick tours in bootneck units) and i am currently finishing a degree in International Relations for 2016 and toying with the idea of a master in SRMC or similar if practical.

My main question to you guys is should i pursue this route with PGI or play to my medic background and op experience and go CP for a few years to gain grass roots experience and contacts to build a solid professional network and reputation as an operator ?

any help , advice or even good natured banter more than appreciated

Had a look and it seems ok mate.
If you can afford it though id do the Control Risk security managers course, jot guaranteed a job but will definitely get you a lot closer!

thanks bud..did look at that one too, just unsure if doing cp 1st would help out, as only got a limited amount of cash to spend on courses etc

It really depends on what route you are looking to take on the circuit. I have not done either course, although I've just finished the Certified Security Management Professional (CSMP) course with ISMI. Regarding the PGI course, I have heard very good things about it and they seem to have a lot of followers on LinkedIn. One of the managers is a former Bootneck I served with, and I believe there are a few more on the team. That being said, their posts on LinkedIn are regular and very informative, and if I was going to take a course, it would be that one.

I saw another thread saying that the CRG course is aimed mainly at HE careers, which if true, will limit you in your choices, although no matter what course you do, you'll always walk away with good knowledge to be used everywhere.

Now, if you are short of cash, and not sure which course to take, why not lean on your current skills and take some Medic jobs while you build up your savings and have more time to decide on a career path. I regularly see postings that need medics overseas.....just a choice.

Either way, best of luck with the future, it is a cutthroat industry and not getting any less so.

Good post bro. I' m actually a little bit at the same kind of crossroads as yours, at the moment.

I google-found your post when looking for PGI SRMC. This course was recommended to me a few days ago by one of my instructors on a med course, top-notch professional guy, ex bootneck also.

Bottom line is, what would CP bring to you ? You have proven yourself as a soldier, that's what really matters.

I have been working for almost 4 years now as a remote site medic and PSD tier 2 medic, I can talk a bit about that industry.

Feel free to shoot me a PM to discuss things more in depth.
