PSA 2001 Exemption / Legally working as Security?

Hi guys,

I was hoping that you could clear something up for me.

I was under the impression and understanding that, under then Private Security Act 2001, there were only two exemptions that permitted an individual to legally work as a Security Operative without the requirement of having an SIA License for the sector, which were;

1) Security at Football Stadiums
2) Security at the 2012 London Olympic & Paralympic Games

Is this correct?

The reason that I ask this question is that I live in a very Jewish area, and the majority of schools and synagogues in the area have security. They will all be wearing Hi-Viz Vests with "SECURITY" over the back, and earpieces connected to radios. However, they do not have any SIA License on display at all. They will either have no visible ID on them, or a laminated badge with the name of the school/synagogue on it, their photo, and in big letters, "SECURITY"

My understanding of the law is that there is no exception for not displaying SIA licenses that apply to this area, but I may be wrong. Can anyone clarify; are they working legally or illegally?

Disclaimer; I am not anti-Semitic, and would be asking this question regardless of the religious faith.

Many thanks,

LEK

If they're employed in house they don't need a license mate.
I guess they're direct employees of the school?

TMAC is absolutely correct of course and particularly if this is a 'Faith' School which knowing the area as I do it most likely is... different however if it was a state run council controlled school... Worth checking the school's status...
