Questions around transferring to RMP TA (116 Belle Vue) from Inf TA

Hi,

I am after a bit of advice, I have been trawling this section of the website and reading what I can. Basically I am interested in RMP TA, I am currently serving with a TA infantry battalion and have a few questions;

· What is the process for transferring? Obviously I need to contact the PSI of the nearest RMP TA centre (116 based at Belle Vue) – is there a requirement to do basic again? Or is all the basic training tailored to RMP type work ?
· What are the pre requisites’ for entrance (I have read min grade C maths & 60+ BARB test)
· What is battalion life like once you have joined Battalion? How will this differ to being in an Inf unit?
· How are the weekends structured – at present I am used to quite a few field weekends, is this mixed in with RMP themed scenarios?

Sorry for all the questions ;-)

Also, when making initial enquires should this be done through my current CoC or should i direct these enquires to 116?
Thanks

Just go and have a chat with your Troop IC and explain what you'd like to do. They will more than likley just send you off to the PASO for a chat and they can guide you from there.

Any transfers at our unit went through this way as the PASO has all the contacts and can help arrange a visit to the unit you are interested in.

It will be frowned upion if you go to the unit directly without talking to your Troop IC first.

As for the other questions you have about unit life and training - save those for when you visit the unit, they are the best people to answer them.

Cheers and good luck.

I don't know about exact protocol, but I would suggest that if you want to leave your present unit because you're unhappy with them and RMP just happens to be the best option, then it would be a good idea to discuss what your problem is and if that can be overcome (if thats a possibility). If its because you fancy a new challenge and really want RMP then it would be better to phone them an ask if they might take you first. They presumably only have a certain number of places, and I seem think they prefer police or similar as a day job.
I don't think it would do you much good to tell your unit that you want to leave then find there's no-where for you to go, but that really depends on the personalities concerned and how they might react. On the other hand you do need to tell them as soon as possible if RMP do look like taking you as you don't want to be seen to be going behind their back by taking things too far with RMP before telling your own lot.

I would have thought you would have had a reply from someone more in the know by now. It is possible that they don't want to post on open forum and want to pm you. They can't do this until you have a few posts but I don't know what the current number is. So look at a few other threads and try and add something interesting to the discussion. Please don't dig up some ancient thread and add "I agree" to the end of it, that really pisses me off.

Thanks for the replies,

Being honest I would like a chance to apply for Civ Police and have done for probably the best part of 12 months however no windows seem to be opening. I thought about going down the specials route but combining that with my day job (office based ) and TA and specials I feel I would be spread too thinly (both in time & experience – office day job, part time military & part time police) . From what I have read on police specials forum the fact that you are a special officer won’t really count as a great deal with regards to applying for regulars – although I find this hard to believe.

The RMP although no direct comparison to Civ Police will be a middle ground somewhere and a completely new challenge so who knows where / what it may lead to.

I will have a look around the forum and try and make positive input to increase my post count a little.

you need 5 posts for PM facility to work, and you now have 6 and are a full registered user no longer a junior membver so you will be fine now with PM's

Depending what force, being a "special" is the quickest way of getting into the regulars.

Speaking to HR managers within the Met, it's like you've almost got to have previous police experience to join the police if that makes sense.

Hence PCSOs and Specials get priority.
