Hi guys, I'm relatively new to the circuit having finished my CP course in April. Left the RAF Regiment 20 years ago and have been in Retail Management ever since which means my CV does not read well when I'm applying for CP positions. I have been fortunate enough over the past month, since my licence came through, to have worked in various forms of Security in various parts of the UK - from doing a PES job in Cornwall, two weekend festivals, gate security, door security and event security for a well known band in Doncaster. My question is how to list this on my CV or would I be better attaching a seperate sheet with Security work to date? I just want to be able to show a potential emploter I'm willing to travel and I'm not scared of a hard days work whilst still showing that I want CP work. My aim is to network with as many people as possible to try and get work overseas. What do you think?

Once you get your CV in order and you still have some trouble getting work. Then draft up something as follows and that will really show folks that you are very serious!

Thank you for your letter of February 17th. After careful consideration I regret to inform you that I am unable to accept your refusal to offer me employment with your company.

This year I have been particularly fortunate in receiving an unusually large number of rejection letters. With such a varied and promising field of candidates it is impossible for me to accept all refusals.

Despite Company 203's outstanding qualifications and previous experience in rejecting applicants, I find that your rejection does not meet my needs at this time. Therefore I will initiate employment with your firm immediately following graduation. I look forward to seeing you then.

Sincerely,

Seen a few similar when browsing the web, might try it one day lol

now I don't mind my thread being taken over by people giving me sound advice as to how NOT to ever find work again :D but if some one could give me some contructive feedback it would be appreciated  unless of course someone can outdo JasonBulla :p

Before I deployed I had trouble getting around the CV portion. What I have found is you better have a good cover letter promoting yourself. After this is done your CV should be no more that 2 pages long. Its important that if you are sending out your CV to companies by e-mail that the Subject is filled out in you e-mail for example "CV For your Consideration" If you forget to fill out the subject your CV is going to get turffed.

Good Luck on your search

ha ha Charlie I think I'm beyond getting some serious advice  so may as well have a laugh instead :D Never know in amongst the banter there may be a snippet of some thing I can use

Give the new CV service on here a try mate, cheap as chips and If previous results are anything to go by well worth the money. JHD has worked his magic on several CV's that I know of.

Charlie - I replied in the wrong area. I was trying to reply to the begining of the thread but I typed in the wrong spot. I am good to go with my CV. I am also currently deployed and employed.

Cheers Darrin

Thanks Leadership and Charlie. I have sent a PM to JHD and he has sent a PM back that he will look at working his magic for me :) I have worked in retail management for a long time and felt pretty comfortable with CV building tbh. The bit I'm now getting confused about is how to structure a lot of different security jobs and their roles and respomsibilities, for varying employers. Do I need to give the employers details inc. contact or do I put it down as work carried out for my own company? Is it better that the work is listed at the top of the CV as the most recent employ? Would I be better having a seperate sheet for security work done, who for and their contact number to verify etc. etc. See there was a serious question in this thread to start :D:D:D

My reply was aimed at the originator of the thread mate. You just wanted to show off that you have a job dont you?.....c'mon......admit it!!!:D

I would say just set it out normally, but if you are going for security jobs then weight it towards your experience in that field. A CV should always be tailored to suit the position applied for in my opinion (No I don't mean fabricated!!).

You sure I can't use advice from the Walter Mitty book of getting work? ThanksCharlie - I believe your right - will speak to JHD later and make sure.
