Serving Legionnaire, will answer any questions!!

Thank you for previous replies to my questions.
I'm not the greatest swimmer although trying to improve, is swimming part of the training programme? and how good a swimmer do i need to be to ensure being successful

Thank you again for all your advice and information

First step in the selection is TRYING, i said it before in real life and PMs on this forum to people who ask.
Dont worry about selection, if you pass selection YOU either sign for five yerars or leave instantly.
If YOU dont make selection you can try again or go for other goals in life whatever is your choise.

I am born and raised in Sweden wich could be considered as a comfortable western world country, the physical training iv done previous in life have nothing to do whit Legions fitness, from my opinion non of them is better/harder than the other one but they do not have many similaritys and are not comparable. I had no previous military background even though we still had conscript army when i was in that age.

Still out of 600 who voulontaired when i vent thrue selection, of wich 70-80% vere real bad as eastern european ex mil ninja spetznas, i was one of 37 chosen, out of 20 going to either the Parachute regiment (2REP) or Infantery (2REI-3REI) we vere 9 left who stayed until the end of ouer first contract of 5years.

I do not claim to be better than anyone else in any way, not tuffer/harder/smarter, or anything, i just want to point out that either you have IT or you dont!
Only way to find out is knocking at the door and try.

If YOU dont have the balls it takes to present your self as a voulontaire, ther is no chance at all you will make it.

Thanks. Thats exactly the kind of talk that I wanted to hear.
The only obstacle to joining the legion is myself. I understand this now.
Just wanted to hear a "testimony" from someone from Western Europe like myself.

hello anyone here could tell me how they enlist at ffl? Cuz i readed a lot about it and ppl say different stuff about it like they base it on the persons motivation/reasons to join mainly or both that and the fitness and ofc to pass the medical check etc this is what i want to do with my life exactly im more than motivated im waiting a month or two to work on my fitness tho, honestly theres nothing for me to leave behind so yes thats it hope to hear from u soon and btw sadly i have no military backround either just my passion, regards Adam

When I joined 20yrs ago I wasn't all that fit either. Don't know how the physical selection tests have changed since then. All we had to do was the test cooper for a physical- no pull ups or anything else.
My best bit of advice is just keep a low profile at Aubagne! Everyday we had guys called out at "assemblement with the C/Chs". Just hope for the best mate.I went down from Paris with 50 other prospective EVs and only 4 of us made it to Castel. Guys who I thought would definitely get in due to their past history in other armies didn't make it but I did- work that one out. I used to pull pints in a pub and had no prior army background.
Motivation will help at Castel as it's a ball-breaker but at 1RE just stay low. You could be there for a while too. When I signed up in September it was grape picking time at Puyloubier thus we had 5wks at Aubagne!!!
Stay happy and if you have nothing to keep you at home my advice is to get your passport and go for it!!

can anyone inform me on the duration of deployment when the legion is sent out? Is it like the US army where it is between a year and 16 months or is it like the USMC where they go for 8 months at a time?

Hi guys.

I have a little question. Are there Belgians in the legion?
I'm from Belgium, 20yo and i'm intrested to join the ffl.
Civillian life is nothing for me, it's tooo bored.
I want some adventure in my life, wanna see the world...
I know that the legion is extremely hard, harder then hard.
but my point in this way is, i wanna try, because if you never try, you'll never know..
i do not know what's keeping me here, but i don't want to make the wrong decision also.
I checked the internet like 100 times for all the information i could get.
i'm thinking farder and wait until i make the good choice. Stay here or just GO!
If anyone got more information, i truly want to hear it! :)

Greetings!

Greetings!

There are indeed Belgians in the Legion.

The Belgians are so important that the first verse of the Legion's March is about the Belgians :) :

Tiens, voilà du boudin, voilà du boudin, voilà du boudin
Pour les Alsaciens, les Suisses et les Lorrains.
Pour les Belges y en a plus.
Pour les Belges y en a plus.
Ce sont des tireurs au cul.
Pour les Belges y en a plus.
Pour les Belges y en a plus.
Ce sont des tireurs au cul.

Only the Francphone's will get this one :) Google translate does not translate this correctly by the way

Google translate sucks. :-)

If the song had been updated to meet the current situation, it would be the Swiss labelled as "tireurs au cul", and not the Belgians (Swiss guys are still prohibited by their own country to join... Belgians are allowed).

I have good memories of the Belgians (as most west Europeans).

As already said by Space coast and Arnaud ther are some Belgians in the Legion.
I just want to add that if you absoulutely want to serve with other Belgians you could always join the Belgian army!

Part of the charm whit the Legion is when you find yourself at some place you never heard of togheter whit a cannibal from Fortuna, one Korean, one Kenyan and a couple of Eastern europe bad asses and everyones laughing at the same farts!

hiya there mate,

i just want some info on the selection process for the legion, basic, checks they do on you etc, reasons i might get turned away.
Im ex Brit army, done my time. got in with the wrong folk tward the end of it all tho and one thing led to another. DD... i hate whats going on in my life at the minute, or whats "not" which ever way it gets looked at,haha got f-all really, no family, no place to call home, no money, nothing to hold my head up for any more, i do try but im not built mentally or physically to be anything but a soldier. got friends, use the term very loosely tho, im so bloody lost. i loved the army, felt part of something. it was my family, im sure you understand that. and now im living at one of my friends, occupy his spare room. sat up at almost 4 in the morning in my f-ing sweats playing his x-box drinking tea, im wasting away slowly but surely, haha ive heard the foriegn legion accept almost anyone who is willing... tell me what i need to know, i dont care for horror stroies and rumours...

Sounds like the Legion will love you. Go for it !

But keep in mind that Afghanistan is over, so all you'll get is african deployments with lots of boredom.

Whatever you think the legion is, it is not. You'll see when you're there.

The stories about the legion accepting just anyone are not true. It used to be like that, but not any longer. They were background checking people even in the 70's when I joined. Having said that, go for it enthusiasm goes a long way

Sort of like that.
You've got to remember that people with happy fulfilled lives don't usually apply.
You get all sorts of people applying from those with nothing to lose to those who just fancy a change
and a bit of adventure in their lives.
At 1RE we had guys with not a few francs to rub together and we had a Finnish merchant banker who worked in Luxemburg.
It does take all sorts.

Well from what I read about people joining, the more switched on guys are getting rejected and the guy with nothing taken on.

So what if I was to leave my job, smash the legions basic fitness entry requirements and give everything to them, chances of me are slimmer against a guy that isn't as switched on and has nothing to give except his time???

They will break you and reconstruct you, same as they do everyone else. Mostly, not a bad thing

Hello can somebody please help me.

Yesterday my cousin messaged us on Facebook, but it wasn't him because the English was bad so I think somebody was writing for him. He said 'They take me to farm, I run 20km they catch me. And then he said get me to british embassy ill be safe there. We are worried about him because his sister has been diagnosed with cancer whilst he was there. His mom chose not to tell him because she didnt want to upset him. We think he may have seen something about it on facebook and thats why he wants to leave.

Is there anything we can do to get him out of there, please can somebody help ASAP
