I completed the Phoenix 4 CP course back in January 2004. Because the CP side of the SIA was still to be set up and finalized, I didn't actually obtain an SIA license because it was impossible to do so.

Now after 6 years in both Iraq and Afghanistan, I would like to get my license to aid future job applications. Can anyone advise what I need to complete to enable this?

After reading a 50 page doc on the SIA website I think I just need to update my FAAW, and actually apply for the license itself. Or, because my course was 7 years ago are there further requirements I need to complete?

Would be grateful to hear of any other people in similar boats.

(In before someone tells me to email SIA. I'm still waiting on a reply)

Thanks in advance

Yes mate, your head was clearly on upside down when you posted this!:rolleyes: its in the vacancies section  which can only be posted on by MODs and the author.......... I will move it for you mate so others may reply :cool::D

Thought I would bump this/answer my own question just in case anyone else finds themselves in a similar situation to me down the road.

I now need to complete my FAAW certificate.
Then I need to sit the city and guilds online exam.
Then I can apply for my SIA license.

Thanks to the guys who PM's me with info.

Hello.
I had a heck of a time getting my SIA, but that was mainly due to a mis
communication (being polite here) with the UKBA as I am a yank. No one is
perfect.
With all of your experience why on earth would you want a license? Do you really need one?
I am looking for a link on here about the license being er um altered.
Scrapped.
So hang tight and wait .....and wait.....

Wildwoman,

Sorry to burst your bubble but the SIA is not going until at least 2014 at the earliest and you will still require a licence as they're only scrapping the regulatory body not the PSIA that requires us to be licenced to operate in the UK.

Didn't sit the exam in the end mate. Offered a new job and it wasn't required.

If you can prove continued currency since your course then the Phoenix course attended many years ago will allow you to apply for a license without having to attend a full course.

Licensing for CP will continue whether the SIA is here or not. The goal posts will be moving as and when the Olympics are over. The new regulatory body will be set up by the end of 2013. This new body will seek for the undertaking of licensing to be more 'industry led'.

Until this actually happens, no one for sure knows exactly what the terms 'industry led' will mean. Another body replacing the SIA will no doubt assume the responsibility...

To avoid doing any refresher course I just rang up Phoenix (as they would of had record of me doing their CP course) and told them what I had done since my course, and was it possible to just come in and sit the exam. As I had been working non stop for 6 years they didn't see the need for a refresher and we're just going to enter me into the exam at the next sitting. Like I said, it didn't happen in the end but they were very helpful with the questions I asked.
