Stretcher

Hi all!

Currently I am reading the book Medic by John Nichol and Tony Rennell, which I am sure some of you know. Now right at the beginning they are talking about this lightweight, kind of roll up stretcher .... I was wondering if anybody knows what Stretcher that was ?

Thank you Starlight!

Although I do have a list of aspiring candidates for trying this thing:D .... I will restrain myself :o

I just wanted to see the thing that impressed so much.

Sorry KM, didn't mean to suggest that you were some sort of muppit. No offence intended.

The MIBBS is the mutts nuts. Specifically designed for immobilisation and casevac from difficult and/or dam near impossible places. It can be used at any attitude including vertically, which lends itself very nicely to use in confined space and rope rescue stuff. Even though I've not used it on board ship, I suspect it would be fantastic for getting someone through a vertical hatch or similiar. It can be used 'as is' for a helicopter hoist.

The real bonus is that if unrolled and left flat and patient side down (without the patient of course), it also make a blinder of a kip mat :D

Cheers bro,

Hello Starlight,

no offence taken AT ALL - au contraire - I was laughing (very vivid imagination):D
This thing looks really cozy indeed....but you are preaching to the choir here LOL

I was wondering : did you ever see this one : http://www.ess-safeforce.com/productDetails.php?prodId=150 that looks like a very usefull thing to...question out of curiosity...could u see that on a ship(meaning would u think it would make sense there) or rig?

cheerio bro,;)

( I am a girl btw LOL):D

Ah! sorry Sis. That'll teach me not to stereotype. A girl called KravMaga - OOOOOOOOH! Matron ;)

Yep, that's the Troll stretcher. It's much the same as the MIBBS, and works on the same principle.

The advantage of the Troll over MIBBS is that the Troll is easier to wipe down due to it's shiney placky surface.

The advantage of the MIBBS over Troll is that the MIBBS has better thermal properties, and because it's not shiney, the patient is less likely to slip when packaged, so it feels more secure.

They're both about the same price I think, so just a matter of personal preference.

You're right in saying that it would be good for use on Rigs, but I think the Paraguard is still in common use there http://www.paraguardstretcher.com/ refers.

Cheers for now,

Thanks Starlight - I have indeed seen the paraguard on of the rigs I've been! I like shiney things:D,so I'd probably go for the Troll....plus it looks very lightweight.

Thanks Russ too! I especially like the fact that the SAR one is quite useful, if you have a few baby giraffes to transport (what do they feed the norwegians??)....

The matron says thank you for the participation:)

I'm jealous of you guys - I'm still trying to persuade people on my new ship that there are some very nice alternatives to a Neil Robertson stretcher :(
I liked my old Paraguard, but have never had the chance to play with one of the MIBBS or Trolls.

I knew I was not the only one who likes to shop for new things! LOL
You guys like it too!!!! It just depends on the things:D

Keep on pestering them Seadog...one day it might work ;)

I got taught on the MIBBS a while ago and I personally think they are awesome bits of kit. The temptation to splash out on one of these is very high right now.

Like you I have the paraguard but after talking with ex mil medics and people on my offshore medics course last week looks like MIBBS it Trolls are the way forward. A third of the price of a paraguard and more flexible for confined spaces or in my case working in wind turbines

Cheers
