Evening all,

Could I please have your opinions on a decision i made!

Am comming up to my last year of a 22yr career in the forces, the Regt i'm serving with are going to Afghan at the end of the year.

I had the choice to go for a second time or remain in Germany on rear party. The time left before my discharge date if I deployed would of been 4mths.

I could deploy and make contacts in Afghan or I can qualify myself the best I can in the year I have left.

What should I of done? (my decision has already been made)

I would appreciate opinions.

Regards

VitoGia

Are you looking at going into Hostile Environment Close Protection (HE CP)?

Having contacts is good but now most companies have a Human Resources (HR) Dept and they will interview and vet you no matter how many people say your a good egg. G4S is a prime example, they will prepare a file on you and will do an in depth check due to the incident ArmourGroup had a few years ago.

It is likely that you will only bump into a hand full of HE CP Operators whilst your in Afghan and your probably better chatting to project managers as they will have more weight when approaching a company.

Personally I would have binned the Tour,
You have given the army the best part of 22 Years mate,
It's time to bin the army and think of yourself.

Use the time to get your life in order, as once you have handed in your ID card and have stepped outside the gates,
Your a civvie and the army coulden't give a flying fcuk about you.

Just my opinion and thoughts mate.

Tough world outside the green umbrella fella.

Honest words!

Totally agree with the last few posts.....look after yourself.
If you want to go on the trip see what your options are for an earlier end of tour....it worked for me.

I love you guys,

The percentages worked out from theml comments: 90-10% for rear party.

I had already decided to stay back.

Mind games eh.

Thank you for your opinions.

Could you please give your opinion on: which is 1 of the better recognised medical courses/qualifications to have?

Best

FPOSi is the best you can get if your not a medical professional.

Look at companies that don't tart it up to be something it isn't but adds specific related topics such as Care Under Fire (CUF), Tactical Field Care (TFC), Injury patterns specific to Improvised Explosive Devices (IED's) and Gun Shot Wounds (GSW's).

Look at Prometheus Medical Ltd. as they do a VIPER course which is not dressed up to be something it is not but delivers what you need for being a first responder in a hostile/remote location.

Scartissue,

Thanks.

With the money I have for resettlemen, which as we know isn't a fortune, but a start. The Cse's to get under your belt have to be HECP, and a good First Aid cse as you suggested. Is there another cse which is a must have?

Regards

If you can afford it look at Ronin SA, Phoenix or Ronin Concepts for your HE CP course. They are all good reputable CP trainers and will aid in the strength of your CV. The good thing about the Ronin Concepts course is that John and Monster hold no bars when they debrief you in Prague. They tell you straight that you should be looking for another job if they think your not up to scratch. If John thinks you are up to par or did well during the course then he will happily offer a reference if you ask, if your not up to scratch he will tell you that he will not offer a reference.

If you can really push the boat out do a surveillance course as this work comes around fairly regularly.

Other than that hopefully your experience and qualifications from the military will do the talking on your CV.

hello again

Mate In all honestly. (and alot on here will not agree with me). If you ave a strong CV and I know you so I think you ave. Do the cheapest course to get your SIA. Its all smoke and mirrors you will learn on stage 2 which is on the job. Mate dont fark around with weak medical courses. Get yourself to hereford and book on with Ex-med. Jed and Dia are spot on and its a good quality product they deliver. Mate the BBC High risk teams use it and te people from that area ?????.

My last point its a grizz to get your foot in, I fell lucky with a mate who was Ops deployment manager don't get down it will happen.
