What camera kit does everyone prefer?

I am considering upgrading my SLR camera (that I've mostly used for personal use) to a Nikon D7000 , with two lenses - 18-55 and 55-250). What camera and lenses do others use and for what purposes?

The Nikon D7000 looks like a good camera for the money.

I am surprised at the almost lack of response to your question.
Cameras and lenses are like guns, people collect them, and have personal preferences. and sadly, there's no one size fits all.
So, what do you want to do? Do you want to carry one every time you leave home? Or do you want/need one to earn a living with? What is your 'day job?' Do you need one for that? Is it for semi covert or 100% covert use?
 
I'm currently an amateur photographer using a Nikon d90 but considering what might be the go to camera and kit for surveillance purposes.

Currently, I do some work on a casual basis as I am in alternative full time employment but would like to commit to further work.
 
A camera is a tool - you pick the right tool for the job.
I don't do much SV work but when I did I had a mate at a Canon Pro-centre camera shop - I owned an EOS 1 and 5 (bought ex-hire so cheap, battered but fully-functional) plus some fast lenses and I hired whatever else I needed.
 
Yeah, it's a decent little camera that I've owned for a while now.

I've got a Nikondx18-70 and Tamron Af 70-300 lens at the moment which are ok, but id like to upgrade soon. I'll certainly upgrade the lenses before my camera anyway.
 
Hi Im new so bear with me.
I use Panasonic. My Lumix X28 has built in GPS, some very usefull functions that still stun me and blue tooth to my phone so you can stream still or video in real time to client or base Team. I ran CP at Wimbledon last year and it even was able to tell me which seat were reserved. Picture quality outstanding.

I have used Panasonic since moving to the US in 1989. All camcorders, were and still are. In 1991 I modified a full size VHS camcorder to be infra red sensitive and added an IR (initially with a VS laser with adjustable spread) then later when the USAF "Health and safety" people complained that we could be hurting the eyesight of their 'bad guys' I reduced it to a NVS high power IR LED array (1993) that kept the OSI ladies happy(er) This led to OSI getting Sony to make their version for them.
Now that camcorders are mainly digital, I am back working with making camcorders for NTSC and PAL markets that video in the dark and video through any and all black glass windows, and that includes fancy offices and all black window limos' and up market SUV's.
I am surprised that people still use VS IR Illuminators. "Look Dad, that man's camcorder is shining a red glow at you..."
 
I use a panasonic v550 as my main surveillance camera for 'on the go' work in large cities and have a cannon eos 450d for static work and 'non work' photography and my trusty panasonic lumix and iPhone 6 for anything else!

Not easy, and that's one of the things my business is built on, and why my INS status statement includes the phrase "...here in the National Interest due to his specialized knowledge regarding infrared illumination and low light video recording..." that was in 1991.
