What is your favourate Sidearm???

glock

Hi, my favorite weapon is the glock 17 because of the easy way of using it. I also shot with beretta and the walther but I prefer the glock.

Glock 17 or 19, hands down.

17 fits like a glove

19 a tad small for my hands (have trouble ripping the mag out sometimes) but drives tacks.

After having shot a fair selection from Beretta, Sig, Colt, S&W, H&K, Browning etc... Glock still wins overall.

But I still enjoy a nice wheel-gun once in awhile, can't be beat for accuracy!

i prefer the glock 17 with fobus assecories as my personal weapon on cpo duties its light ,compact, magazine capacity of 17 rds , tigger pull you have to get use too but you can make it lighter .i have shot during my police career with a bereta 9mm and the south african version sp4 and still prefer the glock never any stoppages after shooting over 9000 rds with it.

Its horses for courses. I love reveolvers for their accuracy over an auto pistol. But when it comes to a pistol that needs to be a good all rounder I've always gone back to the Browning HP. When I served in the military I was always asked to upgrade to the Glock and the Sig but they're much bulkier with not much more accuracy. When I consider a side arm, it's a backup. So it might aswell be something small and simple that works when it has to no matter how much you get thrown about

Manx, never would have considered a revolver to be more accurate than a SA or good DAO semi auto. I have only used the speed six so dont pretend to be an expert but my Glock or CZ would beat it hands down any day. What six shot do/have you used?

Of course a revolver is more accurate as it can be used in double action or single action (single being when you have rotated the drum manually by cocking the hammer so that the trigger only has to release the hammer rather than chambering the next live round).
This keeps the barrel steady as the shots released unlike an auto which will utilise the gassed released to recoil the slide. This cocking action tends to cause the rounds to jump if not supported correctly.
God I'm sounding like a geek here.lol Too much time training people on weapons there.
I've used a variety of revolvers but my favourite is the Ruger .38. It's a big lump but will give you a 1inch group with 5rds over 25mtrs (in the right hands).
As I say though all this is academic. I wouldn't use a revolver for CP as re-loadings impractical and a mag capacity of at least a dozen is nice to have.

Hmmmmmm...All seems a bit anal!!....If it goes bang when you need it to and click when you need it to that seem's to be fine by me........I also find a nice sharp pointed stick work's really well

Manx, surely in that case a SA auto would be just as accurate. The cocking action occurs after the round has left the barrel so has no influence on the accuracy of the shot. This is what i have always been led to believe but feel free to correct if i am off the mark.

Mali,
What you state is correct. In the case of Semi Auto Pistols, the round has left the barrel by the time the mechanism has begun chambering the next round. However, as the slide cycles back and forth it can losen the firers grip of the weapon, re-seating it in the palm and giving a slightly different Mean Point of Impact (MPI) for the next round whilst firing at the same Point of Aim (POA). Whereas a revolver being fired single action there is considerably less movement (Through my experience at least).
And before I get loads of people saying "Get a Grip.lol" or "Sounds like you're not holding it right". I'd like to get in there first with "Groan"

MTS, whats amateurish about asking questions?

Manx, not sure i agree with you mate but will test your theory next time i,m on the range.

.....

Nothing at all, i just think some of the answers were too text book and really irrelevant to this thread or real world scenario's.

Like i said, no offence intended. Keep on asking and never stop.

MTS. I agree wholeheartedly that going into the finer details of marksmanship with different types of Pistol is tedius to say the least, but I do just try to answer questions asked with to the best of my ability. And where better to be a weapons geek than in a thread on Pistols.

Mali. I hope you do give it a go. My findings are born of experience, as I'm no Walter.
I've found that when using my old favourite 'The Browning HP' I can consistantly achieve a 12 inch group with 5rnds over 25mtrs from the standing unsupported. Wheras with a revolver being fired single action, the groups are rarely bigger than 2 inches.
Hence the theory I have drawn. Though in retrospect it might also be worth considering that most of the Brownings I have fired are almost as old as me (Issue srevice SLP). In comparrison to the revolvers which are generally quite new and well looked after, being 'Club Guns' at the range back home (The Isle of Man. Where Pistol ownership is still perfectly legal).

Look forward to your findings. Maybe we can get down the range some time and put a beer on it :)

Manx, roger that. Will look forward to it. I still think my CZ75 SP-01 would beat your revolver. But your beers will taste very nice.

But can you do that when you're knackered, stressed out your hearts going at what seems like eleven billion BPM and rounds are coming back at you??:D:D

It's all good, maybe i was being a tad pissy.

Have a good one!
