Excellentia vs Ronin - CP course

Hi Beardj

just wanted to say which ever course you end up doing enjoy it and get as much as you can from the course and the instructors who will not only teach you what to do but can help guide you for the future. Also look at the course as an investment in yourself for the future. Good luck enjoy it and I hope after completing the course you find what you are looking for don't forget to network to.

Hi Alex,

Thanks, I definitely will do! I enjoy networking so won’t be forgetting that bit!

I believe I have found the course for me with only one or two loose ends to tie up then to apply and book the course!
Thanks for your help and advice given, it has helped me settle my mind and focus on what’s important to me.

All the best to you for the future, and I’m sure I’ll see you around the forums!

Bear

Hi Bear,
I think I have read most of the posts on this thread so, sorry if you have already answered this, but can you tell me what criteria you applied before you settled on Excellentia or Ronin as your chosen TPs?
And how many other TPs did you look at before making your selection?

Hi Oasis,

Apologies to sound patronising, I've just read your CV and was a bit... gob smacked to say the least! Should really do my research better!!

At least that info is on the page for anyone else to read but it's very irrelevant to you! Thanks for taking the interest and again any questions please ask, I’ll do my best to answer!

Regards,
Bear

Bear,
No offence taken I can assure you, au contrare, I am flattered by your remarks.
I wasn't being mischievous by asking the question or flying under a false flag, the only reason I asked was to try and establish what criteria people apply when doing their research to select a CP course.
You sound level headed and grounded. It is always refreshing to see young guys that are not motivated by some romantic vision of what CP is really about and I have gone on record on numerous occasions on this site to say that 1. A military or police background is not essential and 2. Languages are a far more important asset than martial skills.
Good luck

Hi Oasis.

I'm sure you weren't being mischievous. Just me being naïve is all!

Thank you for taking the time to reply and in regards to languages do you suggest any in particular?

Sugar coat sh*t you'll still be left with a pile of sh*t, so why not just be realistic from the outset?!

There is so much good and sound advice I am wondering if I could add anything of worth, but here it goes.
On gaining my licence, I was interested in doing the Ronin course as it would take me out of my comfort Zone and the medical training would be very appropriate as it offered far more than the FAAW, although battlefield first aid trained (which I believe is not accepted in civi street). I also considered it would give ideal training to work on ambulances to take up any slack, once I have returned to UK and I think it is accepted for offshore medic (sorry it has been a while since I read the course info, but am sure I will be corrected by those who know more than I). This was my thought as I am very interested in the medical side of things.

French could be considered if you decide to work in Africa after gaining a few years under your belt.

Although South African by birth, my opinion (it's only that and also I am not sure how frequently you return and your age) it may be worthwhile to undertake Ronins' course to reacquaint with that environment as it may possibly occur you get a gig there.

A good amount of due diligence has been done on your part and I wish you the best.

Hi Malkieri,

Thanks for the tips and points. I've decided to go with the Excellentia Course in June and will be doing a "blog" on the course on here.

I rarely return back to SA only once every couple of years if that. I've also chosen the Excellentia course cause I feel the course will push me further out of my comfort zone than the Ronin course would, as SA is very familiar to me (understandble I'm sure).
I feel the Excellentia Course is also better tailored to where I'd like to work (London) as I know a lot of Ronin Grads do go into HECPO work and I'm not personally ready to make that jump yet as I have no miliary or policing background and the contacts I have, have told me that firearms training is not necessary as yet(thanks to the lovely laws we have... uugh.), not at least until I want to try and take up more Hostile work.

I've got my goals set and for the time being I will focus on them and worry about "toting pistols" at a later stage in my career.
But thank you for your points and sharing your knowledge. It is helpful to anyone who reads this thread!

All the best in the new year to you,
Regards.
