Advice needed

Hey everyone

Just need some helpful advice..

So about me I'm in my early 20's and have been working in the security industry from retail to aviation security. To be honest I found all that standing around pretty boring, I've always had this sort of work in my head and have managed to track down some people my dad used to know online for him ect.

So I am considering being a PI as a career and just looking for some advice regarding courses, getting work, equipment recommendations ect.

I'm located in east anglia so if anyone is local and is willing to have a chat that would be great.

Thanks everyone.

Hi Iceburg,

You may need a license in the UK (we are in Norway, and one does not need a license).
Taking a course is smart, but you may wanna start by reading a book. Check out this one:

Jeeees! What has happened to this forum? It used to be a place where we help each other, etterforsker (whom I`m guessing has no affiliation to ISS) can`t direct a newbie asking for advice towards a book he should read?!

Well I'm damned if I do, damned if I don't.

If I had left it, no doubt we would recieve complaints that he is advertising for free from other paid advertisers etc

Google surveillance courses uk, the ones at the top of the page are your better options, I'm not affiliated with anyone. The job market is pretty saturated and will be for the foreseeable future so you will probably have to cut your teeth doing process serving etc. to make business connections. Your location could be a benefit and a curse, a little bit isolated but potentially fewer competitors. Keep in mind that licensing is/maybe/no ones really sure/ coming in so make sure your qualifications have some examining board affiliation. Or do a surveillance course and wait and see which way the wind blows before committing to an investigation course, my 2 penny worth. Good luck!!

I was about to put some MORE money into advertising on this forum but forget it.

I'm out... its getting to be as bad as all the others!

Only forum advertisers can advertise their services/products. Thats the whole point of being an advertiser and thats what keeps the forum free.

Otherwise every author, trainer involves with PI/Surveillance would simply reply and add details of their books/courses etc..

Since being a member I must have pushed over £2K in your direction via advertising and sponsoring the CPW Events. Not forgetting I put £100 behind the bar, donated many prizes and give CPW member the first option if a discounted place becomes available on a course. I also gave up my time to speak at two of the events).

Surveillance Tradecraft is about to have a new re-print. Maybe I should remove the references to CPW on page 423 and the half page advert on 455 as YOUR advertising time has expired, or do you want me to send you an invoice?

Peter, the advertising and event sponsoring works both ways, you will have received business from forum members hence you've paid for forum/banner advertising.

Giving CPW members first option of discounted places helps both our members find cheaper courses but also your business to fill spaces with short notice.

Behind the bar donations, competition prizes and giving your time to speak at events help raise you're brand awareness and is greatly appreciated by CPW and its members.

All of the above help your business.

Ref Surveillance Tradecraft - Its the first I've heard of your new re-print, we can discuss a contradeal which we offer something in return for promoting the forum. Its better to arrange something like that though prior to adding posts advertising your business as we can modify your profile to show your a current advertiser with permission to add advertising posts.
