ive been working the doors for near on 2 years - i wore shoes for a while but no grip and uncomfortable - so i began wearing boots

i have also heard mixed rumours for certain boots that cant be worn and somer that can

what boots can and cant be worn, as mine are getting a bit worn and looking at getting the Magnum Elite Spider from patrolstore linked to here

I wear boots, as they support your ankle, give grip and are overall much better than a shoe for support and shoes can be lost on occasions in a scuffle.

I am assuming that when you say not allowed to wear certain boots, its probably the safety ones with steel toe caps - a big no no. Other than that I dont see why you anyone would say not to wear boots.

but i have heard different things about the magnum boots due to the reinforced leather - people have said they can be worn and others say they cant :confused:
 
I don't like magnums at all, just don't find them comfortable. Have a look at the Original SWAT boots at Gladstone Boots Home I have the SWAT air side zips and the SEK 9000s.

I will never wear a pair of magnums again, these are so very much better.
 
Danner acadia for me, really comfy and give loads of support, the gucci insole forces you to stand upright so no back ache from slouching.
bit pricey but if your going to invest in anything invest in boots.

Look at the LOWA boot, they have a half boot ankle fit in black, looks chunky but very light expensive but endures longer than the magnum and won't split on the heel. Foot specialists recommend this boot to soldiers with ankle problems.
 
Best boots I have worn while doing door work were ankle boots I picked up at the health & safety Expo in Birmingham a couple of years ago. Funny thing is they are designed for cooks, funny grip pattern but it really grips wet slipy floors and I can get a good shine on them. I find that I can pull twelve hour plus days in them without problems. Cost was about £35 if I remember correctly.

Very good boot, no problems with foot rot like magnums (or is that just me :eek: ). the vibram sole is great for out doors, but if it's wet outside and you have to go indoors onto a shiny floor watch your footing.... oh and they squeek, so no Ninja stuff. But if it's a good day in day out, outdoor boot, I can't fault them, worth every penny (pound... may pounds)
 
For properly cold weather, you can't beat the thinsulate/gortex lined ProBoots (British Army issue) in my opinion. Kept my feet toasty through 4 winters, and can get a decent shine on them. Lowa boots are good too as are Orion.

Other times - Side Zip Magnum boots (£40)....with a decent insole they're excellent. I wear them for my day job too - on my feet for 8-10 hour shifts with few problems.

Also - definitely no steelies!

I would normally use Proboot for the winters here in Serbia (- 15 C ) and they are still the daddy ... also good are mater horns, Danhers and Converse ... all very durable. (can be pricey though)

Magnum Elites I use occasionally but to be honest they are not that great in my opinion and I find they dont offer the same support as those listed above.
 
May seem like a silly question, but why not steel toe capped boots? Police wear them.(PPE?)
Im serving mil and yes Lowa are awesome but expensive, chunky and heavy good for winter but a little over the top for normal every day use, I have a pair and they have lasted years and thousands of miles. I also have a set of 511's which I have hadfor 2 years and they are awesome for normal wear, even used them in the desert.
 
Altberg boots with protective toe caps are issued to North Wales Police.

Very comfortable and of course no damaged toes.

I wear Magnum steel toe caps and find them really good. I used them throughout the summer doing the festivals and had no problems with them. I find the really comfortable if worn with thick wooly socks. The outers were constantly wet and they were stored in my tent when not being used and there was no rot at all. I do use a lot of polish and buff them up a bit so that helps I am sure. I was looking at the Adidas GSG 9.2 Tactical Boot for next summer. Has anyone had any experience of them?

I'd be interested to know that too. My own personal preference are non-metallic "airside" safety boots - meet the same standard for dropping stuff on 'em as STCs but are only two thirds the weight so much less fatigue when doing a lot of walking around.
