Field Trials

I know that most of you folks here with spaniels and gundogs work them in security and teh like, i just wondered if anyone works their dogs in field trials and pick up trials etc, or indeed uses their dogs for actual shoots?

Noooooooooooooo kind of goes against everything you train your spangle or lab for!

Why, do you fancy giving it a go?

i used to do it with my weimeraners but been a while and thinking of trying to entertain the hairy buggers and just give me something to focus on a bit too, i enjoy that side of things of course i know it's a little against how you folks work your dogs, i just wondered if anyone had any experience with it that i could tap for some advice

I use my springer for beating/wildfowling and a bit of walked up shooting. What you looking Annie?

That's more the kind of thing i am looking to do mali. Live in the sticks and quite fancy the idea of trying some beating and walked up shooting with the dogs, well one of my 3 in particular i think would be ideal. Just an idea i'd like to try at the minute or get a bit more info on to see if it is a viable option

Used to do a lot of shooting and falconry with my old retired springer, among others, fantastic sports! Try PRA Moxon Training the Roughshooters Dog.

2 demons the cocker is actually being an angel and you know how that was going last xmas!!!! I have made time to give him more mental stimulation and he's like a different dog, totally changed, it really is amazing the difference in him

I am really enjoying it, once i have actually forgiven him and started to look at what he maybe needed that i wasn't giving him, it was so obvious, he really is just so bright i started with a few walks alone with him, then tried a few new things with him and he just took it in like a sponge, the more i do with him the more he is calmer in the house, generally more relaxed, a lot more attentive. I have started to introduce my daughter into it and there has been a huge swing there too, he's far closer to both myself and her, he is just such a happy dog and so willing to please. To be fair the circumstances we took him on in have always made me nervous of him but he did i think really need something more than i was giving him and when i sat and really thought about it and looked at his background, and yes his pedigree to really understand his breeding background i began to understand that where his close breeding was that of a spoiled showdog, straight after that he is working throug and through. I simply tried something new and it has really paid off. very early days so far but the difference in him in just 10 days is staggering
