Hi guys

I am not willing to give any advice to a friend as he is after a good handcuff training school/centre to do the basic hancuff qualification course and i have only ever attended the one location and so have nothing to compare with.
I trained at a local provider So i am after some expert advice on quality providers from the vast knowledge base i have come to know on here can anyone assist.
My colleague/ friend is based in the London area north London near Heathrow so any advic would be great and passed on to him )still trying to get him onto our wonderful site but he is new & shy HA! HA!)

Thanks guys

Best Regards

I agree with using Niton, i have used them for re-qual training a while ago, very good introduction to the subject and no frills/waste of money.

For the point of having a meaningful discussion I have a question about this handcuff training. Why would you need handcuffs in the security industry in the UK? Under what circumstances would you use these handcuffs? How often if ever have you used said handcuffs? What was the position of the police when they arrived to see the person in cuffs?

I ask the final question as someone who comes from a police training background albeit in another country. What documentation do you make of said cuff usage? Do you inform the company that you work for that you are using said cuffs? Do you have a SOP that specifically states that you can use cuffs? Do you carry a notebook in your pocket and document what has happened before the police arrive?

Again, I ask these questions for information purposes and for the purpose of educating the massess of the forum.

ps most people in the industry can't perform the basics let alone doing something advanced like detaining someone in cuffs. There are a lot of issues that need to be discussed that there is not enough time to cover.

As stated in my first part of the post my friend it is a friend of mine that is requesting the information as i have completed the cuff training and annualy refreshers as required.
My friend / colleague works for the NHS A&E Department and is in processes of being promoted and wants to attend an external course before he does the internal one through work.
The senior team security staff carry and are trained in cuff usage due to the risks etc they are in from issues in that department eg drug drunks etc and are responsible for protecting the staff etc.
The NHS trust review the usage etc annualy and carry out regular refresher courses for the staff in the security department.
His colleagues have used them several times and have been ok when police have attended they do have a full record log for drawing the cuffs in the department even without using them so everything is logged and available as evidence.
Hope this answers the question my friend.

I have been trained and re-certfiied in the use of cuffs and also carry a trainers qualification and would add that when on assignments i have only ever had cause to use them on 2 occasions both of which ended up in an arrest situation and had no isues with the police once providing JUST CAUSE FOR USE and provided the proof of the correct training.
I do agree that there are a number of people that would not be safe using the cuffs but there are also a number of safe people that do use them but only when realy needed (My personal opinion)

Regards
