We need to talk sometime. I can tell you a good story about the aforementioned woman!!! Expert In explosives Detection You Know. Yes you have guessed it we are not in the NTIPDU.

Now now boys - PLAY NICE

I train in reality and yes we do some car scenarios as well as a lot of other stuff. Control and sociability play a big factor in this type of training as well as the dog and handler having the right temperament.

You could be training for any situation, be it a kidnap, shooting, or even a basic general drunken slob who doesn't understand when to back off, any general situation you may come across. If someone eg steals your kid then the dog has to be able to react with no hesitation and will take the crim out wherever he can get a hold without hurting the captive. A reality/pp dog needs to be able to think for itself if the situation demands whereas a gp dog will mostly look to the handler for re-assurance.

My lad is only almost 9 months and he has phenomenal drive which can easily go ott. So some sessions will be spent in control and to work his brain allowing him to assess what is happening.

I train with 'specs' when work allows and it is good to see what can be achieved just in one session - even just basics if you're having a crap day.

I have to say though - it's a dog eat dog world - if for some reason we are working a dog (not necessarily our own) and we cannot get to grips with something, it is broken down and re-explained - this happens until your dog and you get the hang of it. If you still cannot do it, you are given a different dog, this may happen a couple of times then C-YA, it can't be all the dogs that are a problem, something is just not quite right and you could be a liability to the training so you are let go (to put it politely). Unfortunately - this did happen to one chap who was having a really bad day (well a few of them, actually) and it was causing him to mis-handle the dogs in his care - he didn't last long on that day, he was told to get and kit and get off the area. I had to take the dog off him and handle her on bitework and she was a dream - it would have been so easy to have went the other way.

Could be an interesting one.

These people (NTIPDU) are also known for offering free passes to certain people (cannot be named on a public forum) to try and drum up interest for their courses.

With things like this happening, it's no wonder it's a near impossible task to improve the standards in dog handling and handlers.

Hi Clyde

I may be wrong and barking up the wrong tree, however this statement appeared when a certain company refused a freebie pass from NTIPDU and also after they were found out for allowing people on their courses that had had kennels shut down for abuse and cruelty to dogs - which then re-opened elsewhere and was shut down again. Cruelty, abuse, starvation. A good example would be a young mali bitch which had to be 'rescued' by her owner, taken straight to a vets and was extremely malnourished, over a stone underweight, covered in ticks, fleas and also had a bad stomach. Luckily she pulled through but not without a lot of aftercare. All relevant authorities were informed and were quick to act in case it hit the papers.

Funnily enough, it appeared just after that:eek:

Meant to add: Specs has some nice land for any sort of training - may be worth a visit :-)

help

if i can be of any help to any one let me know ? for me i love to see others get on in life and have a big daft smile on their Face as a smile can go a long way in life much more then money can

As I mentioned..... he is mentioned on the website and it appeared at the same time as James Kaye was outed for claiming to be accredited by them. He is the guy who people suggest is running scam courses.
Whilst I accept all of your comments about specs and on the face of it sounds like he is a good guy for the industry, I so far only have two forms of reference for him. One is yourself. A random forum member (no offence mate - don't mean that to sound derogatory) and the other is a national body (of sorts) (in fact 2 national bodies)who are pretty much well respected by lots in the industry.

A scenario: The BII who accredit the DS exam (amongst others) were mentioned in Panorama because one of their centres was found to be rubbish. They were informed about this and in the public eye appeared to do very little (behind the scenes, this led to a LOT of changes in accreditation for centres)
Does this one bad centre mean that the BII are a joke?
Absolutely not.

So why should we judge the membership body based on what COULD be (no offence specs when I say this - just playing devil's advocate) one rubbish guy who has claimed falsely that he is accredited by an association and was then outed by them.

One is more likely to believe the national body.
ESPECIALLY when it is mentioned in the same sentence as someone who is reputed to be a total scam artist.

So.... 2 sources of reference - dodgy guy and his pal OR respected national body.
Who would you believe?
Really - if it weren't you and it were other people in the same situation, then who would your first instinct tell you to trust.

ANYHOO.... this is all academic, and everyone can make up their own minds.
SPECS - if you WERE that dodgy, then surely you wouldn't have the gaul to put your website on a security forum... and it is a LOVELY website by the way

LC-K9 - by jumping to Specs' defence, you make him sound even more dodgy!!

BUT with respect, you are both making positive contributions to the forum, which is good.

LCK9 - a lot of respect for a lot that you have said. The same goes for Specs in his short time here - a lot of respect for what you have said.

Specs, hopefully you will see that I am not trying to be offensive, just trying to make sure that everyone is open and honest in here.
I am sure we will talk... as I have plans that it sounds we could be useful for each other with (unless of course, as NASDU says, you have seventeen legs, two heads and breathe fire :):) ... we will see...)

Hope to have put across areasonably balanced argument and any offence caused to either party was not intentional.

BUT for now, am away.
Have a lovely weekend everyone.

Stay safe
Clyde out

Never done a dog handling course for work based scenario but surely your dog is a tool of your trade and just as you would ensure your car was well maintained so certainly should you not also take the best care of what is your working partner and tool of the trade.

Basic grooming isn't exactly rocket science, i mean i make one day a week usually a friday, no idea why, the day i sit and clean my dogs ears, check her nails don't need cutting, make sure she has no stones or anything else unpleasant in her feet as at 7 months they are almighty dinner plates of feet still:). And yes i brush her teeth which i started doing as a puppy of 11 weeks, so she really has no issue with it now, keeping her healthy is in my mind the best for both her and myself. i usually brush her everyday to get the thicker shedding hair out and strip comb her once or twice a week, and comb her ears out every couple of days to keep the knots from getting too bad around the enormous flappers of ears. Thankfully as i began right from first getting her she enjoys it now.

I simply cannot believe that there are handlers out there who can't take an hour a week to ensure their animal is in the very best of shape they can be, and some training schools who do not instill the necessity to do such things. Totally unbelievable

This is from the NTIPDU.

Most of the people who keep slagging the organisations off are not in the industry, do not have an SIA license and know nothing about what is required by SDH’s, they do not have the knowledge to join an organisation enabling them to have an input in the training of both dog’s and handlers, they do not attend meetings, sit on committees and nobody has ever heard of them in the professional dog world.
The legislation and organisations have been there for these people since day one but because they know nothing they prefer to just sit and hide on forums.

To clarify once and for all what is being said about the NTIPDU by a certain person.

We had a member from Scotland whose partner had been to prison and who themselves had worked in a kennel which had been closed by their local council.

We received this information, not from the member concerned but, from a so called dog trainer who had previous dealings with these people. We proceeded to check this information out, and had input from an NTIPDU Director who also relayed information to us, we had conversations with their local council who agreed the kennels had been closed down. Certain other things came to light and due to this series of events the member was informed that they would not be able to have NTIPDU centre status.

Since that time we have had no further contact with this individual and the incident was closed, but this so called trainer cannot accept the fact that we acted upon information received, dealt with and closed the matter but continues to try and discredit all the work that the NTIPDU and others have achieved. But thanks to our members we are informed of any untoward comments that are made.

The ‘trainer’ concerned has stated that if what he had been saying wasn’t true then legal action should have been taken against him. As some of what he said was a version of the truth and was acted upon immediately there simply wasn’t any need to take the proceedings any further, therefore I do not understand why he continues to use this event to try and undermine the industry, the organisations and the work that is carried out for the professional dog handler. If we thought it was necessary to take legal action we would have had no hesitation in doing so.

Hey up Clyde - certainly no offence taken - it's nice to have a conversation with 'an adult' instead of a bickering body of people :D

I will always back my mates up - especially when i know they are in the right. The lawyers that train with specs can have all the defending stuff - thats too much like legal stuff, lol :)

Pssssst - specs is dodgy, lol ;)

On a more serious note though - it would be nice to meet and also hopefully find out where you would like to progress in the use of dogs within your business - be it gp, search etc.

Hope you have a good weekend.

Posted at same time as JB83 - just wanted to say - it's always good to see the other side of the coin.

she done the courses before the NTIPDU were aware of the info you supplied to A1K9. When the NTIPDU recieved this info they acted upon it and were happy to leave it at that. And if both organisations are fat cats why did you display thier logo's on your site unlawfully? I believe that NASDU and the NTIPDU are correct in labelling you with James Kaye, your only a scottish version of him.

Right time out all of you, no more slander of anyone PLEASE guys. can we draw a line under this, or take it private to PM. I know things have been said by all sides here, and people wish to make their case but take it private or i will be forced to close down the thread. Please guys come on lets keep it civil

i'm all for that annie, i just wasn't going to stand by whilst he slags them off, hence why i reported his posts to the moderators and directors in question in the first place. If he stops then we are happy to leave it alone.

Its good to see that dog handlers love a good bitch as well. You should have no probs integrating into the sia way of things.
