Hi All

Say you were working for an American General in a safe part of Iraq to live with the occassional trip by Heli and road. Part of a 20 person team.

How much would you work there for?

How Much a day in Iraq

the £400 per day sounds resnable but it all depends on the risk and area...

High risk = £500 - £600 not a penny less
rest of Iraq (Medium high to high) = £400

Many would work for less but i value my butt, I havent done all this training to get it shot off 3 days into the job.

its a good poll you have there
the team im on were discussing this topic the other day.
its all down to the Job in hand and the Area you are working from.
and the time of exposure your on the ground,
the consensus was £200, no less.
there are other companies paying their operators less than that a day, and still have a que at the door with newly badged SIA operatives willing to work.
im up in Sunny Mosul and on £275 a day.
 
Iraq wages

Wages has always been a subject that people keep close to there chest and rightly so as it is very personal. Sometimes people add a wee bit on or take a we bit off for varying reasons.

When the ballon went up CRG/Armour group and Raymonds etc where on a mint and people made big money very fast......

I would luv to know what people really get? And how much companies pay per day nowadays.

What company do you guys work for and how much do you get if you dont mind me asking?

A cpl of people i know have just gone out to afghan with Armour......£123.00 pd......not what u expect these days, but thats about average......and when i mean average i mean average...I know some are paying 275 and 300. When i first went out i was on 400....haven't heard of anything bigger. You have to remember guys and girls what the average service person is on.....if he is going to get out and work for double his pay he will, and thats what companies are going to pay, as they know they will have a queue for it. I am in UK on 250 a day......now that is fantastic, unfortunately it stops soon.....i will admit, in a years time when i am struggling with my mortgage i would work for 123 a day. Doesn't matter how good you are, what training you have, if your out of work and you want to remain in this business you will take what u can when u can. Cant recall who said they value their butt and they wouldn't work for less than a certain figure.......when you hit hard times...and you will....you will work for less than what you expect. Trust me the good jobs come but you have to take the bad with it. You look at how many people have a licence now....figure above 3,000 i think..... remember you don't neccessarily need a licence for afghan or iraq....so in essence u are up against over 3000 for a job in the uk......uk isn't in demand for CP operators. If you think that by doing a civ course and getting an 'SIA' licence you'll be able to walk into mega buck film star wages whilst snorting coke from the crack of Posh spices arse during an after show celebrity filled party then read the thread above.

Soz it not going to happen unless yer name is david!

But im sure you'll find some prozzie up the west end willing to dress up for you as Posh and you can do anything you want to the crack of her arse for £200

I agree with DanD, the UK market is flooded with operators. I remember back in 2000 there were only two main CP training centres - TASK and Global. Last time I checked there were 72 SIA approved CP training providers. As Peter Jennings mentioned on a different thread here, most of these have missed the boat and will struggle to fill places. As for jobs in CP, the average soldier today is vastly more experienced than his counterpart ten years previously. These guys are ideal CP operatives in the eyes of PMCs - they have recent in country experience and still retain a high degree of military discipline, but most importantly their wage expectation is comparitively low and they will happily chug away for 172 a day. Personally, Im happy to leave it to them as I found that when I was in Iraq, no amount of money was worth getting hit on a daily basis! That said, Ive got massive respect for the boys that have been out there years... gamblers every one of em!

The question of what you will work for, has varying parameters, which are;
Is the wage every day of the year, even whilst on leave?
The rotation?
The insurance package?
Flight and travel costs?
Travel days?
B6 vehicles with reputable gear?
Management who have your best interests?
Past Performance and current SOPs

These are just some of the factors to take into consideration along with daily rate of pay.
 
I thing it depends on the job you do, the person you are etc. For example: I'd worked in Iraq $3500/month. It is not too much but if you see it with " hungarian eyes" it is good money. There were some guys worked/working for the company/i worked for/ and they were very happy when get a $2000/month.
Some men dont wanna work in hihg risk area under $10000.
So...it depend on you-just my opinion.

I have a feeling this was the Contract that Raymond Assocaites had with the 2 star General, that Aegis took over, it's now very selective of whom they have on the team..
 
Id work for some defac cheesecake and some malboro lights.

The way I look at it is this, is the daily rate more than I was on in the Mil and is the rotation enough to make it tax free? yes to both and cheesecake? Sign me up.

Id work for less if the timeframe was confirmed as much as possible and long term. Id work for more if it was short term.
 
Remember the changing threat levels as well gentlemen, no one who has been here for a few years can deny that it is relatively speaking safer now than at any other time, the core years for the insurgency were 05/06 and GENERALLY speaking the environment is far more permissive now( Touch wood, I'm working later!!) To that end companies are able to offer lower wages and as already mentioned people are willing to work for it.
Once you step into the world of commercial security then for better or worse you are surprise! surprise! in an industry driven by the principles of cost,best value and profit margins, if someone will do it for less than you then do not be surprised if the job goes to them.
One more on the flooded market comment, just take a look at the number of introductions from new/prospective CPO's, looks like a lot to me, where the jobs are going to come from i have no idea.
Good thread question as a start point for discussion but to the best of my knowledge if you are looking after an American general in Iraq at the moment then you will most certainly not be part of a 20 man team but you will very probably be working for one particular company on $375 a day with a 9 and 3 rotation.

Just a comment on the Edinburgh Int post, friends of mine who work for them on a particular contract are on $600 PD, 8 and 4, not paid on leave.

PSD dyncorp are on 575 dollars a day for 313 days per 12 months. Doesnt work out a bad wage with the current excahnge rates. Im an ops room bod at the minute so only on 270 bucks a day. However, if I was to jump across there are only certain companies that I would work for. Narrows down the options a tad but hey-there you go.

Obviously depends on rotations and the like but unless I a very good rotation then not less than 70k per 12 months.

Bare in mind though though that is said in my present financial circumstances. If I was to lose a wedge in a booze/casino/ladyboy hooker incident might have to reavaluate!
 
Totally agree with the posts so far. We are all feeling the pressure of market forces and the global credit crunch.

Factors to consider:

- We now have a constant stream of experienced armed forces personnel leaving in droves and making the natural transition to PSC work; more operators equals lower rates...
- The global economy is in turmoil; we now face the "take it or leave it" option
- There are now several large PSC's engaged in a price war, who can bid for contracts at lower profit margins due to the ease with which they can recruit personnel on lower rates
- I personally know of a few companies that have gone in at virtually flat rate on some contracts just to "get their foot in the door" and then capitalise on additional contracts at higher margins / GP
- The SIA route has actually harmed the UK CPO rate by allowing personnel to "buy into" the industry; something you couldn't buy into before to get on the circuit i.e experience and reputation, thus leading to a diluted rate

I think we either have to;

A. Remain selective, if we have the finances to be choosy...?
B. Suck it up and ride out the credit crunch
C. Target specialisms and attract higher rates
D. Look at vertical markets and make a temporary career transition if these newer rates are not viable

I also get the feeling that Uncle Sam is shutting the doors on many posts for European operators by making it a contractual obligation on certain tasks to employ US citizens. Can't blame them really, as the money is more likely to go back into their system rather than Thailand's via the UK lol!

I still feel that Afghanistan and Iraq will pick up again on an even bigger scale, but this time the rate will reflect the economy with a possible mean average rate of £175 plus completion bonus etc being the benchmark.

There is no way that the transition of power in Iraq (and the reduction in MNFI military) can allow the security void to be filled 100% by locally sourced personnel.

Likewise in Afghanistan, it's no secret that they need to divert ALL of their teeth arms to engaging the enemy and not on the more mundane tasks of baby-sitting NGO's etc. Once again, this is a void to be filled by the more professional PSC's.

Even the "US citizens only" stipulation will be impossible to maintain, there will simply be too many posts and not enough US operators.

We still have emerging markets as the world is never more volotile than when in financial crisis. Additionally, humanitarian missions will find it virtually impossible to secure direct military assistance and once again the world will have to look to the PSC solution to assist in environments like the Sudan...

I finished in Iraq in Nov 07 after 3 years and already, in that short time the world is a totally different place. I have a new potential MD (US president!) the housing market, cost of living and employment prospects etc are nothing like they were back then!

Oh, and the winning lottery numbers for this Saturday are....

Actually this is incorrect, as EODT just replaced a lot of Western Expats such as Brits and Yanks with Bosnians and South Africans, on the AGW contract, and many UK companies are following suit, such as Sabre, the former Eastern Bloc Countries operators will work for a lot less than us Brits, and this is a major driving force in the market today,it's all about supply and demand, and the supply outweighs the demand, both here in the UK and Over seas....it's a sign of the times, and it's not reallu going to get better, until Barack Obama and the Next UK PM go and take on another country, like Syria, Iran or Zimbabwe!!!
