Hi all

Have searched for a krav maga instructor/trainer in the Blackpool area and have only come up with 1 so far - West Coast krav Maga.
Does anybody know anyone else? Any opinions of West Coast Krav Maga(Instructor lee douglas)?

Thanks

I'm interested in similar things near Liverpool mate, good luck with it and please share your thoughts on KM on here when you're into it.

Hi I used to train with Lee at West Coast. Great bloke and very good instructor. Also good group of people. I had to stop due to shift changes but will be starting again when they open a new group in Lancaster. If you want to try it they do a session on a Saturday which is a good introduction.
Hope this helps.

Phil

@ Paul, will do, @irishrookie, I have done some MMA and jujitsi over the years, nothing major, I have not heard of anything 'bad' about KM until your comment so i thought i would give it a go for a few months early next year and see how it goes. @Phil, thanks, there does seem to be a lack of classes round blackpool, given the amount of DS in the area i thought there would have been more but I will give west Coast a try out.

KM is the chosen discipline of Yamam, Isreal`s Counter Terror/ Hostage Rescue Unit, although I would agree with Irishrookie that there are a lot of `Instructors` claiming to be experts if you choose wisely you can learn the real deal. I trained with the UK director of the IKMF who travels every few months out to Isreal to train with the global instructors as Krav is constantly being honed through on the ground experiences out there.

I think you will find this video interesting Kitch, a professional MMA fighter goes out to train with Yamams` ex chief CQB instructor and finds he knows nothing whatsoever about self defence, it`s a long video but it shows how Krav should be taught-

In fairness Sabre, those pair of flutes on that show are nothing more than show pony's.
They hardly represent MMA or BJJ in any meaningful way.

Krav Maga is all well and good if you're going up against average Joe, but a KM practioner would have a very tough time trying to pull any moves on a trained MMA, Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu or Judo guy or even a decent boxer, he'd most likely get slammed, knocked out or brought to the ground and pounded.

I trained with members of the Swedish military who were trained by the Israelis and coming from a boxing/kick boxing with a bit of BJJ background, I wasn't very impressed with KM in general. Sure, it could be very useful against your average geezer but it's nothing special in any way, in my opinion.

In the interests of comic relief please see the following vid.

I train in mma/Muay Thai at the moment for fitness and because I love the sports, and hope to start BJJ or Judo soon. (Just to wear a gi and add structure to my training, so I can get graded as I progress).

KM is interesting to me though, as is the US combatives system. Ideally I'd like to find a system of training that's realistic for me while wearing boots/body armour, a suit, etc. Chances are I'll never need to use anything like this in a live situation, but still . . . It's good to work towards it I think.

Good one sarbe, I believe the video in your link is one of my favourite Youtube videos.

KM is the chosen discipline of Yamam, Isreal`s Counter Terror/ Hostage Rescue Unit,

Incorrect, KM in it's non-commercial form is the discipline of all Israel's security forces (not only Yamam), including every combat soldier, security agency units and private security adhering to the Israeli Police Security Standards.

It's simple to teach, easy to learn and effective to use.

To respond to other posts: would KM (or any other fighting discipline) be effective against a MMA, Karate, or whatever expert? That's just a silly discussion and in my opinion shows a lack of depth in real world hand to hand combat scenario's.

Nobody posed the question of KM vs MMA. I did however suggest that one would be better off learning MMA than KM. I've had plenty of hand to hand, knuckle to face combat, also known as fighting experience. I don't claim to be an expert but I know enough to know what works and what doesn't work.

Krav Maga is a self defence system.Krav Maga is easy to learn, techniques are built on the natural body response mechanism allowing anyone to learn quickly, but also remember and be able to use the techniques.Krav maga is practical system that teaches you how to prevent all kinds of violence and attacks.
