Level 3 First Aid, any demand?

Is that not the same level as First Aid at Work?

I have seen some companies advertising it as the 'new' FAW qualification, now that the HSE has stepped back from First Aid Accreditation etc

Ah here, when does it end?
How about this for an interesting idea....ONE standard, ONE accreditation body (State), THREE levels (community, Occupational, professional) and ANNUAL MANDATORY upskilling for EVERYONE!?
Level this bloody playing field and take private enterprise out of it, it's peoples lives these quals are fooking with......

Several awarding bodies are now offering a Level 3 First Aid at Work which is intended, but doesn't have to, replace the HSE First Aid at work.

All the AO offering OFQUAL first aid courses that I have spoken to are classing the Emergency First Aid at Work (1 day) as level 2 and First Aid at Work (3 day) as level 3.

Here’s a link were you can see the course content http://www.highfieldabc.com/FirstAid/Default.aspx basically the old FAW with a new name and different form of assessment.

Here is a link to the HSE’s guide to selecting a first aid training provider after the 30th of September, it’s actually a useful document, http://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/geis3.pdf
While it does not actually say that FPOS is acceptable instead of FAW in the work place, Para’s 24 > 32 make it look like it is.

Nope, this is a higher level than FAW.

FAW is FAW. If the training provider is using an Ofqual recognised Awarding Organisation, they can deliver the FAW course which is featured on the QCF Units database, placed at Level 3.

The reality is all FAW courses are the same given the regulations are the same whichever route you chose but some are able to call them "Level 3 FAW" and others are not. The only commercial difference is that a candidate or employer can draw funding for quals which are on the QCF register rather than ACME Training Ltds own course.

Odd that FPOS-I is at level 2? As I understand it, after review FPOS-B will be placed at L2 and FPOS-I at Level 3. FPOS-I will not replace FAW as a) there is no legislature surrounding FPOS as there is FAW and b) FPOS does not cover the same content e.g. poisons. Similar...but not exactly the same.

Yes, FAW is FAW but only a TP who accredits their course through an Awarding Organisation which is recognised by Ofqual can call their courses "Level 3 FAW".

Yes, as I understand it (and don't quote me on this) FPOSB and I will be reclassified.

I am even more confused now!

So FAW can be considered QCF L3, and FPOS I is shortly to be the same?

Your confused, try getting your head around it as a training provider. I honestly think I am reading a completely different HSE guidelines to half my Competitors, if half the stories I am hearing are true.

The best I can put it for you is forget trying to compare the workplace first aid courses (Emergency First Aid at Work, First Aid at Work and to a certain extent OFQUAL / EYFS Paediatric First Aid) and the First Person on Scene (FPOS B & I).

I was told by one of the Awarding Organisations that the OFQUAL recognised courses only used the Level 2 & 3 grading to so that people could see where they fitted in with other OFQUAL courses, therefore making it easier to place it in the apprentice / Government funded schemes.

If you decided to take an EFAW or FAW rather than a FPOS course I would chat to the training company about the course content (some TP believe this has changed) the quality control and course assessment procedures they use (check out the link I posted above) before parting with your money.

I intend to offer both OFQUAL, FAIB and In House certified course depending what the client wants. However I have to say the only difference will be in price and what’s on the certificate.

I would say the two articles you have linked to pretty much cover it as far as I’m concerned.

I would add that the average member of this forum who is working in the security industry is probably self employed. This gives them an advantage when choosing any training provider. They are used to “selling themselves”.

Why should I hire you to protect my life / customers / assists? The answer you give, is pretty much the same as I will when you ask me why you should PAY me to train you in first aid.

Remember when you give me money for a service I work for you. And as an employer you want value for money.
