Hi

Im on the Ronin Concepts corprate course on the 31 March and im really looking fwd to it but i have been told of a few mates who have done the HE course that i should do that, but alot of other people have said it is a wist of money as i have been in the Infantry and there is no point in doing the fire arms part.

At the the moment i am paying 250 pound out of my own pocket and i have been told i cant claim that back.

Dose anyone know if i would be able to claim that 250 pound back of the army and should i do the HE course or stick with the corprate course

Craig, being in the infantry is not what the he course is about. its a stipulation by the fco for iraq and the stan, only by certain coy's ,,,not all require this.
at the end of the day mate its a personal choice, u r only paying 250 of your own shillings for your own future (if you decide that ) but rem their are more aplications than jobs ...
by the way i was a team leader with armorgroup for 3 years in the pit and also worked for erinys int. and i only qualified sia cp on a leave rotation after doing over two years on ops....and at my own cost.....

I've done HECPO Ronin Concepts course although I've got a complete carreer in FFL and paratroops: from my POV it worth the price if u just finished with the army as the mecchanism are totally different, the teaching beeing assured by ex SAS.
For your own xperience it's good to get it under your belt, and the day you'll need the tips you'll acquire during this course you'll thank your intuition. Remember, you're not really qualified as CPO by the end of the course, you have a lot more to do BY YOURSELF, I mean trainings and different awareness: evolving in ME environment (Iraq and Afghan) in a team is totally different of beeing in a platoon with all the log behind and so on.
A lot of companies ask for such a course because US companies (contractors) ask for it: it's understandable, there's too much ass clowns in the pit with WM credentials and the problem is when the shit hit the fan...The course gives the very basics to add to your own military skills. It's useful in that case, a plus for a military xperienced operator, and it gives you as well the SIA if you succeed the exam.
A contrario, for the ones who begin from scratch, they can't become CPO within just one month, beware of it. The army gives you all the skills and reflexes you need as a good base, but you need more, and the base of this "more" is the good course: it's expensive, ok, but your life worth it, no?
 
Mate, green army shooting is nothing like what is required of a CPO. Some of the easiest people to train are those that have never handled a pistol before. The basic will help you a little for convoy stuff, but if yoooking to do CP work then you need to ensure you do a Protective Combat Shooting course. No necessarily what Hereford teach. I would pay the money and do the firearms, you will learn something that may save you bacon and be money well spent!

Excellent advice and I agree fully.
However saying that I also have a strong thinking that Train all you can!
it just go in you back pack you wear always ( the brain) and knowledge is not a heavy weight to carry around with.

I totally agree with cpt291 and Hawk, train all you can since you always can learn new stuff and probably will. Have done courses were people thought they did not need to do some things since they done "similar" things in the army 5 years ago...I can promise that the army never teach what the course teached. You should always be openminded in this business.

I did the Ronin Concepts course last year and opted for the firearms package. All of us who did the firearms package in Prague thoroughly enjoyed it and found it useful. All of us were either ex soldiers or just about to leave.
As the other people have said above, its all training which you can bank.
Continous professional development in a competitive market will assist in getting the jobs.
£250 of your own money is a good investment: think of the potential rewards.

I just wanted to bump this post because I have provisionally booked myself on a Corporate CP course with Ronin Concepts at the end of this month.

I am aware that there is also a company called Ronin SA that operate out of South Africa and needed some clarification on something,

I continually hear that 'Ronin' has got a good reputation for its deliverance of training. Which Ronin are people referriing?? Is it one, the other, or both?

Hiya fella

I did my Cp course with Ronin UK mate and i must admit the training was brill, im not to sure about Ronin SA i havent had good vibes about them but thats upto you.

Are you doing the corprate course because you dont want to go to places like Iraq or Afgan, I went on my course only doing the corprate and in the end i paid an extra £750 out of my own pocket to do the live firing in Prague and i dont regret it one bit

Cheers for the top info mate. In answer to your Q, I am only doing the corporate because I am getting out of the mob for that exact reason. Nearly been on the receiving end a couple of times and feel that I need to give my family a more secure life.

My lad is just 4 and the most precious thing in the world to me and no amount of money abroad could temp me away.....well, maybe if it was too much =]

Seriously though. Work in the UK is what I want to do and believe that once I have built up a good rep for myself, I will do pretty well. I already have some good CP experience, sV experience, advanced driving and investigative and legislative knowledge, so I reckon I'll be Ok.

Thanks for the info about Ronin, I'm really lookin forward to the course.

Wel if you think 250 is to much well dont do it i paid 1400 quid to do the Tac Firearms course in Swiztaland for 5 days and well worth the money its all about investing in yourself to make you that better operator

I am on my Ronin Course in June i went for the full hog will keep you posted
 
Gents..

Been in the business now over 5 yrs and agree with most said above, any quals you get will add extra strings to your bow and in an ever growing competitive market thats there are not enough jobs to go around so you can never have enough..
 
TDW, if you search this forum for previous posts, i remember reading one from some one who done the SA course in fact there were several posts and they all rated them as very good.
