Security guard doing non security duties for static security money.

I like the way you think OJ, I see no reason why I should continue to give 110% doing a job that my own managers dont even appreciate, I'm not afraid of hard work, and I have at least a basic knowledge of business so I'm considering starting a security company offering a better service than the competitors.

I'll just have to do my research and try and find out the possible costs of getting started and the proper pricing per man hours and call outs etc before I can be sure it would be viable.

I have a good personal relationship with the FM

I wonder what has changed from these previous comments?:confused:I always thought the FM was the wicked witch in all this, the one that that made you do all the extra work?
this facilities manager is saving a fortune with me there doing all this non security work and he just keeps expecting more and more, a true urine extractor if I ever saw one.
or is he an even bigger piss taker than I thought already?
I think you're right in regards the culprit being the facility manager

Strange smell of fish in the air.

"I'm out"

what I meant was that the FM and I have previously got on on a personal level, that doesn't mean he wont try to squeeze every cent and more of value out of my man hours worked, it's not a personal thing on his part, it's his job.

When I said he was the culprit I meant in regards to him asking me to do extra work that was not on my contract, I was just as culpable for doing it, but that doesn't mean I can't separate the business side from the personal side, I can and I do because otherwise there would be constant tension.

I dont let my emotions get in the way of rationality, I dont hold personal grudges that may lead to burning bridges unnecessarily, that would not be the professional and rational way to deal with the predicament.

I am here looking for advice in this difficult circumstance, it is a very complex issue and I am caught between a rock and a hard place. Thanks for the advice so far, hopefully this explanation has cleared things up a bit for you.

Do you change light bulbs, file and order the Facility managers dockets from contractors, check the PH levels of the cooling tower water, check the chemical levels of the building water system, use the building management system to ensure the plant is running ok?

If so, do you think that it is acceptable for a security guard to do all this non security work for no extra pay?

Yes I do all that, I have spoke to the company I work for and the building Manager Himself, the company say 'we'll sort it out' and the building manager says 'well leave then if your not happy', someone else who wants a jobs will do it. I think it is very wrong to not pay you for the job you are doing, so me, I now check the building once a week, if anything goes wrong I say well it was ok when I checked it last. Now my working week consisits of studying for a security management diploma.

Did you march down the middle of the road Urmo.
Did you swear allegiance to the USSR.
Did you wave a little red book in the air.
and call everyone brother or comrade.
I guess not, you just went to organised people who could help you get what was rightfully yours.
Someone who would stick up for the little threatened guy.
90% on here think they are betraying their country, by seeking help.
Well done you.
Sensible lad.
If you're in the Uk speak to the NSWU, no political allegiance, just common sense and fair play.
