On a lighter note , THIS is a good article on what happens in extreme temps. Some very valid and notable points raised about our friend Mr Frost.

Be careful out there people. ;)

Definately worth a read.
Full tanks, common sense, regular phone check calls, and appropriate tools for the job.
nature doesn't take a lot of stock, of manly pride.

Others are less fortunate, even in much milder conditions. One of Europe's worst weather disasters occurred during a 1964 competitive walk on a windy, rainy English moor; three of the racers died from hypothermia, though temperatures never fell below freezing and ranged as high as 45.

This kind of scared the bejeezus out of me.

Forewarned is forearmed.

Good read and absolutely to the point. People dont add items to their vehicles in winter. My boot is filled with kit, better to have it and not use it than not have it and desperately need it.

Chilling story (sorry, somebody had to say it).

Interesting read though, I definitely won't let the other half give in to her fashion sense next time we go to the mountains. (And it'll stop her complaining she's cold despite having "warm-looking clothes"!)

It's the detail that needs understanding, the silly little things, losing heat and sensory touch, setting off a chain reaction, just be removing a glove for moments.
The understanding of timescales and distance measurements.
Full tank, sit in the bloody vehicle till day break.
Take care of your self first, evalute carefully your predicament.
Too many Brave but dead heroes out there, who allowed machismo pride to rule their heads.

ive had arguments with my mrs before now that i have put on my coat and walked out - and sat in the car - 3 hours later ive come back in shivering like mad - last night, we had another argument - i did the same - nearly 24 hrs later my toes are still hurting from the cold and i have thermal socks on and they are above the radiator - not very wise i know

Had you not thought of chucking the missus out into the cold instead.:rolleyes:

i prefer to walk out - gives me time to clear my head - and come back with early hypothermia :)

I don't give a fug about moaning on my thread.......................

As long as I get an invite to the wedding. :D:D

Ps

A good woman's worth the walk ;)

the muscles along your neck and shoulders tighten in what's known as pre-shivering muscle tone.

Used to get this when worked the front door of a nightclub. It was down an alleyway that was a wind trap and was cold even in summer. In winter.......................

Used to go inside at the end of the night and get a funny sensation that started up my back and travelled across my shoulders. That was me thawing out.

Thankfully that was a few years ago and I no longer work that door.

Even though I spent some time in colder climates I have never gotten so cold as I did on that door.

On another note, has anyone noticed the amount of young children / babies who are out in this weather without any hats on? And then the parents wonder why the children get ill or aren't happy out in the cold!

Let this be a parable of warning to you db1.
I bet the 4x4 was a bloody Santa fe.

p.s. I concur on the hatless frozen babies out there.
Also think its hilarious to see the little uns so wrapped up that they run along in their snow suits, straight legged and their arms out horizontal like airplanes, where they have so many layers on.
This occured to ashooting party of ours in La Mancha, Spain.
All caught in a January Snow Blizzard, and had come out unprepared.
they stuck on every bit of clothing they could find.
So much so that they couldn't present their guns to their shoulders to shoot.

Yours truly stripped, popped into thermals and a Barretta windproof storm coat, and carried on like a summers day.
Clever old dog, Hector.
First time I'd seen this in 20 years out there.
But you come prepared for everything.
temps out on the plains at night can be -3 and lower. (You never know when you might just have to go out)

This has just come online. Very much food for thought crew.
No news as yet on possible foul play? But if not, this woman may have fell to the very forces of nature in a way that has been described on this thread.

Also 2 local lads to my area have perished whilst trying to cross a known beauty spot waterway.
Sometimes peoples ignorance of nature leaves me truly speechless!

Stay safe and warm crew.
