The New City & Guilds 8269 MSO Course – June 2013

Hey guys,

Just want to stick my 10p worth in as sometimes i do!!!!,

Ok first of all 3rg is run by two VERY experienced individuals form the maritime sector who i have worked with personally, so yes they do have an ability to pass on there knowledge even if they are not an "operational company as such" what BOLLOX!!!.

The MSO course is now and will be into the future the course, tick in the box, what ever you wish to call it that is needed for you to do this job, because maritime security companies are requesting that this is one of the many ticks you need to work for them, and as stated the maritime security companies are lead by clients who are lead by high organisations such as SAMI, IMO and what ever you which of these organisations what they say is normally seen as the bible.

As for price this is always going to be a sticking point, especially when the wages have dropped so much. On a personal note i would not work nor have i ever worked for £150 a day and im sorry to say but if you do then you are working for a below standard company and i suggest you get the hell away from them. Reasons for working for these type of companies vary i know as some lads need to get there foot in the door so take a few crap jobs to get the experience, or which is most cases you are payed this because your not as good as you think and cant get in with the better companies....sorry if this upsets individuals with my view but it is my experience that i have seen from the industry.

Back to cost of the courses as i said this will always be a sticking point and from us the buyer, payer we will always be looking to get a better deal saving money, but in fairness 3rg are competitively priced against other MSO course providers, if you find a better course with a better price please feel free to start a thread and share the love!!!!!

Once again guys this all comes back to yourself on what you want for yourself and your future, if you are that individual that doesn't want to spend out then don't but please stop your whining and complaining, BUT if you choose to pay out and do these course then i take it your an individual that wishes to work within the maritime industry granted you may not like to spend out the money as most of us if not 100% do not wish to part with cash but we do it because we wish to work. On a brighter note if you don't pay out and you don't work i hear Tesco's are employing across the UK so this means you don't need any qualifications and you get to go home every night!!!!.

Again guys this is my opinion from my last 8yrs working in the maritime sector!!!!

Regards Bevs

If your thinking about doing a MSO course I would give it a month or two. It's a relatively new course and PMSC and TP's are still getting they're heads around ISO 28007 and the relevance of it. City and Guilds have been inundated with applications for centre and course registrations and it's only matter of time before the number of TP's offering this course doubles. Supply and demand means that prices will fall and I can see the cost of courses falling to half of what they are now. Look back 3 or 4 years ago when we were paying £700 for a SSO course and look how much it is now.

I'm told that Horizon Security Solutions are the only providers north of the border. Worth a shout if you don't want the expense of travelling to the far south and doing the whole accommodation thing.

So what is this event all about? I’ve seen it everywhere!

This is an annual networking conference for individuals who are in the security industry or who wish to enter the industry. It’s a great opportunity to meet other CPO’s, speak with recruitment companies, training companies and operational companies. All are welcome and this event is for EVERYONE.

Strategically planned during the quiet period in the CP season, we can think of no better way to socialise, network and catch up with other operators on the circuit.

We aim to bring you some of the Industries leading recruitment and operational companies but promise not to bore you with guest speakers trying to sell their courses
