Hi,
I have always been interested in the Military, but haven't ever been sure if I should join or not. I mean you have to sign up for many years and you might not make it out the other side. But after lots of thinking I have decided what the hell, I will just do it anyway.:) I will join when I'm 18, unless anything changes. So that gives me like half a year or something to decide and prepare.

Anyway im stuck deciding which regiment to join. I want to join either the Infantary, RAF Regiment or Royal Marines.

I'm not really sure which one to join. I guess the Marines would be the most hardest to join. And the RAF regiment probably the safest becuase you are just around airfields. Could any one help me more?

Thanks,
Alex

Four questions:

Do you like cross dressing?
Do large cylindrical objects get you excited?
Which colour do you prefer Green, Blue, or Grey?
Are you easily insulted?

Most importantly, these are three very different outfits with varied jobs and roles to look at. All have careers offices & reserve units which have regulars you can talk to.

I would suggest that you ask this question again in each of the units own forum section to get the most relevent responses from those who are/were on the inside.

This isn't something that we can vote on or decide for you. It is a big decision that could affect the rest of your life and only you can be responsible for that...

I wish there was just one army then I wouldn't have to decide. Unfortunately there is no AFCO center near me, the closest one is over an hour away.

If you don't like cross dressing the RM is out.
If you don't get excited by large cylindrical objects forget the mortor's.
Grey for RAF Reg (AKA Crab Fat Grey), Blue for RM, Green for squadies.
If you aren't easily insulted them you might just survive the average DI; you worthless piece of shit!!

Good luck with what ever you decide..

My friend was saying that you better off staying in the Infantry instead of the Marines because it safer.

But I don't know if that entirely true. I guess the Marines get sent to more dangerous places but probably with better kit and training so that kind of makes it even.

What do you think?

If your no.1 concern is your safety then you are concidering the wrong career.

The RAF & Navy will be safer than any of your choices, up to a point.

Even joining the police or being a paramedic you will put yourself at conciderable risk of assualt & injury.

I suggest that you take time to think again about what you want from your life and career.

It's not I was just wondering if what he said was true or not? I would like to see some action when/if I go out there. I understand the risks that are out there. I never said it was my no.1 concern.

2 of my friends are signing up 1 to the infantry and one to the marines both say each one is better. I really am stuck, especially with no AFCO center around here. I want to be certain what I want do and then go for it.

Trust me you will enjoy cross dressing once you are in!! there is no better run ashore!

Honest advice... If you want to be as proud of yourself as you can be, and be proud to be part of a select family... and have that green beret.. you will get so much out of the marines. It will also hold you in good stead if you get out into the real world.

Also experience wise, you will be in afghan front line every couple of years if you stay in a fighting company, but there are lots of things you can move into to keep yourself safer, stores clerks, but once you are in, and realise that front line is very exciting you wont want to be safer, you'll want to be in the thick of it with your oppos!

I dont disagree with army, it just wasnt for me, I knew too many people in it I didnt want to be like. I wanted to be the fittest and best. I thought that to be the marines. And once you are in you become proud of this.

Ever thought about getting a trade (RE, RAMC, REME etc) you still serve in the same places and if you wanna do infantry type stuff you can do P company or all arms commando stuff? as far as safe goes there is a risk in everything even crossing the road dont let that worry you............... just grow a set and join now!!!!

:D

As a humble matelot scablifter (well maybe not so humble) I have been honoured to not only be invited on theses runs ashore but have trained with and cared for the boots.

I have messed with them, stood back to back with them in more than one bar fight, and seem them in tears over the birth of a child or death of an oppo.

If you go for the Royal you will have am amazing career and a family that will always stand by you.

As long as you give it your all, both mentally and physically, you will succeed.

As an ex infantry soldier i would suggest join a core (Engineers, Signals, Logistics etc) get something out of it rather than just being a bullet dodger. You'll still get to see action and if you decide it's not for you in the end you've something to fall back on in Civvy St.

But as Tacmedic say's if safety is your main concern, seriously consider another career.

Sparkie OUT!

To Mr Potential recruit,

Aim for the Recce Platoon (after you've served a few years,...and delivered) of the First Battalion, 1 Royal Anglian Regiment.

You'll become one of the fittest, gayest, hardest, cross-dressing, alcohol-draining professional thinking soldiers going at the moment in the Great British military machine. (And if Benny is still in when you get there, you'll have to watch the pink furry handcuffs and leather whip that ALWAYS come out on the weekends!!)

Or you could join the RAF and enjoy the good life...
