checking someone out

hi guys ,need some advice as to how would i go about checking someone out to see if they are real or a walter cheers

Just a snippet in case it helps...

I have found that sometimes a good way to check out the occasional 'walter warrior' is to dig into their military Parachute career, especially if they claim to be 'Para', SF or a Royal unit that engaged in that particular specialisation.

Unfortunately, I am not sure if you can apply this rule to the SFSG..? I understand their make up but whether or not they are operational parachutists I have no idea, perhaps someone could advise me...Old Git you see..!

I know with my background I find that very easy but it has worked in the past and have caught a few with their pants down....

Trust that this helps...

I'm a civi and have been in the CP industry for 10 years, only once under the instruction of the security company owner was i instructed to say i was ex-military as he wanted me on the job due to me being able to do so and because the client insisted on ex-military only. When I arived on the job I couldn't do it, I pulled the team together explained what I had done workwise and that i would be an asset to them and that I was a civi. The guys were brilliant and appreciated that I hadn't bullshitted them, even as a civi I spot the walters a mile off. I would rather be up front and honest with the team/client as you will get found out in the end. This as is demonstrated on this site can then follow you for the rest of your career. So my message to all walters is dont do it it will bite you on the arse in the end.

sfsg are as operational as any other military parachutists are i.e technically not very. but every member must complete the standard jumps course.

but i fail to see how operational insight can be gained from that particular qual??

If military, you can check with the Army Archives. They will not tell you anything you don;t know, but will confirm id what you ask is correct or incorrect.

This can be done on the phone.

Not in the UK you cant. We have data protection act. I applied to M&R for my records after my originals where destroyed in a fire (started by an ex girlfriend!) They only release a abridged version of my documents and then only after i gave them more infomation ie, DOB, NI number, regimental number, place of enlistment etc etc.

Kev, i called the UK Army Archives a few times for this.

On one occasion I asked for information regarding someone that claimed to be a 9 volt ninja.

The asked for his name, DOB and dates he served. Once provided, they told me they cannot tell me what i don;t already know. I asked if he served in specific 9 volt ninja unit and they said "We cannot say exactly where he served, but he was combat and not in a regular unit".

They will not provide more info than that, as you correctly mentioned, but They will not provide exact details, but will help identify or get closer to the truth,

Thanks

I see Bootneck...perhaps I have misunderstood the thread..? I suspect that you are talking of the operational role of a CP operative..? which is a fair point of course...

But the original question was how someone checks out a 'Walter' or not..?

I have merely suggested one tack on this, that's all and would be more than willing to listen to other ideas..?

This works in exactly the same way as it does with checking out bonifide medics. Where as i would be asking about dealing with difficult tubes or particular procedures you might be asking a bod about rigs or DZ's or perhaps particular jump days (a simple check of the met office records on line could show up a blatant walt) but this would obviously only work if they are claiming to have a para back ground....

doesn't work if they are claiming to be a level 7 underwater knife fighter. (for which i naturally have my certificate, medal and trophy next to my landscape of the boat house)

Yes Mediiiiic I have attended a similar course at Poole with DP and GH...and I too am qualified as 'Ninja UWSM' (Underwater special mermaid)...to qualify..? and I must admit it was the toughest course I have ever engaged in..? I needed to demonstrate my prowess in encouraging bootnecks to drool all over me and spend copius amounts their hard earned cash on a tranny with a slippery tail....!!!!!!

Of course, it wasn't difficult...

OK 'Royals' abuse on a post card please to PO Box 404245...:p

Simple simon,
Quick interview about specifics and check referees. If you are not 100%, there are plenty of others to choose from. Don't waste time unnecessarily.

Its usually the ones who have far too much to say turn out to be Walters. Those who have done it dont feel the need to big themselves up therefore keep quiet.
