First transit and current situation

Hello
I've been offered work (first transit) next week for a short trip and a long trip a few weeks later. $6000 dollars p/month. Would this be a good rate. Understandably the sphincter is twitching a bit as its a fast ball and I've been out the corps 8 yrs!

What should I expect and any top tips ? On a separate note, has anyone worked for salama fikira, a Kenyan based marsec company ?

Thanks guys

SF are a good company but not as good payers as they used to be a couple of yrs ago.
This was due to the company being split in 2- land ops and sea ops- both seperate entities.
The uniform is a bit like Goring's brownshirts but you can't have it all!
They have a good client base though and some nice cushy boats.
Well done on getting the job mate and as S said- don't go delivering any money, haha!

Got to start somewhere mate considering there are numerous (ex PVI, Drum, Solace) lads mulling around out there talking protein shakes or dits.

They wont be paying a big wedge to start with, after all both you and them have to assess each other? Like Steward says no dodgy flights with dollars or if so take some tight matelot shorts & KY (golden rivet club)

Thanks guys for the feedback , yea money seems pretty shit really but like you say gotta start somewhere! Just hope the money does pick up with experience! Anyone know what the new going rate is with experience ? Cheers chaps

Well Ambrey now dropped to £250 TL £200 MSO but paying in dollars!, PVI more but the transits with both have really been cut down, collecting more airmiles than Branson... Guys trying to feed the need, but too many companies and too many guys now, as they say oversubscribed, but hey these companies will keep saying they are recruiting...

The days of earning £60,000 a year with this are few and far between as now we are spending too long in UK and if you are trying to do the seamans tax allowance phewwww you do have that to take into account.

I can see a load of guys having a problem with this!

So tell me mate where you would expect earn £3973 a month here in the UK or anywhere else bearing in mind that you have been discharged from the Royals for 8 years, probably attended a few weeks training here and there? etc etc etc

If I may? I would suggest that you are a rather fortunate young man... just an observation!

In today's climate you are very lucky. You have got the foot in the door that 100s are looking to get everyday.
The money has gone out of PSD and marsec but its still better than what you'll get working in Aldi.
If its what you want to do then do it.
The fact you will have experience on your CV is worth a ton when you go for that next job.

Many companies are now requiring actual experience spread amongst the team. This is confirmed by your seamans book. Making it almost impossible for people to get a foot in the door because you have no experience.

Get in where you can, anywhere you can, shut your mouth and smile because there's thousands ready to replace you in an instant.

I just don't understand some peoples mentality, the big bucks days are over for PSD and SSO. Sure, something else will come along, but in the mean time, get what you can.

You can expect to see some interesting wildlife.

$6000 per month is good, it is more than I got in May, but you have some good months and bad months.

I don't know what all this talk of the money has gone out of marsec???

mch, as we all know, PSD and marsec used to pay double what it is now !! and that was on a bad day !! Wages are going down and down, even in the big lads club like MAST.
