Police harder than Army! What do you think?

Bullitt, i joined the RMP in 88 and left in 95 joining the RUC. Was my previous experience welcomed with open arms, no. I had a ball in the depot, got in with loads of former RM's and RUCR and then went to my station and reality set in. I was very proactive and this was looked down on by my new section mates, so i understand your thoughts on this subject.

However, you of all people with your military service should understand that their is a game to play especially in an interview. I have seen many people in the Police not get the jobs they were very suitable for because they failed to hit the points/buzz words.

It is a sad fact that education quals are taking on more importance in the Police. I know several very well educated people who could build a computer, explain what each part does in great detail, but couldnt find the socket to plug it in. That doesnt bother me, they want promotion and to go to meetings, sit behind a desk and play manager. Let them. The ex forces(mostly) or the guys/girls who wished they had joined are the ones who are making the difference being good coppers, doing the sfo, arv, surv, mountain rescue,k9... you get my point. A place is no doubt waiting for you in the Police, just play the game and get yourself in and find the job that suits your talents.

Regards
M

I'm sorry but a guy actually admits that it is lonely and tough in the army at times and suddenly you label the man a walt..... have a bloody word.... it takes a braver man to admit that than to sit there making out that at no time ever did you miss your family and friends and find it difficult because that is utter bullshit.....

I know huge grown men who openly admit they have felt broken and have cried due to the things they have seen and done in their time in the army.... there is no shame in admitting you have feelings and are not a machine. I'd warrant anyone who claims they never ever not once ever missed home or people or a normal life, and wished they wern't sitting in some shithole in the middle of a desert where people die everyday is actually the bigger walt........ They don't take your bloody heart and soul when you join up you are still allowed to have feelings

Just to add im also married to a copper and in law enforcement myself but also es army, i still maintain the police have it fairly easy, compared to the army with out a doubt

Are you serious? I do hope not, your profile say's UK Border Agency, are you sure your not a bit bitter. I may have the wrong idea but to say the Police have it easy is daft.

Shuttup Wingnut you big Wussy, you get it easy with your helmet and handcuffs and stuff, oh, and just so you know, my Dad's harder than your Dad!:p:p

Bored now!!!!!!

Yep, I've been a Rifleman and a Met PC too. Blah blah blah etc etc etc. The roles are different and not necessarily as compatable as people think. It took me 3 years and 3 applications to get into the Met. I didn't whinge when I got knocked back, I just got on with it and re-applied.

Unfortunately, as much as I think society should care, when you leave the mil, you're on your fookin own and know one gives a fook that you've excelled at senior brecon and you're a W/O. As far as the average scrote limp waster of a civvy is concerned, you're just another nob end ex-squady - sad but true. Welcome to civvy street.

The harse truth is however much of a super dooper shiney knife fighting RSM you are, all servicemen, however illustrious their career, are just has beens waiting to happen.

PS: Ive got a tiny cock and I don't care who knows.

Ha ha Wussy! I have done both and I agree with Starlight, it's a pish argument different roles (like I have already stated). If you don't like it then get out, if you have never done it personaly then your in no place to comment. I would say MAN UP!

Bullitt you had a lucky escape (I should know after 30 yrs! )Your mistake was to view the police as a force they no longer are and so thats why all the experience gained in the military is unwanted. What they would rather have is a spineless 'yes' man (or preferably a woman)who will never opperate on his/her own initiative! the police is about re-inventing the wheel at the public's expense whilst watching one's career very closely to see whom you should stand on to get the next rank.

Whoah! Easy tiger. The police “senior officers†may be all about reinventing the wheel and climbing the career ladder, but the everyday bobbies are certainly not spineless. My team of PCs are very pro-active. Turning over crims and nicking violent offenders who pray on the weak. Of course the experience gained in the police is not really essential. Most of it isn’t even transferable or relevant. Unless you’re on tactical firearms departments playing with guns and that takes years to get in to, you still have to be an everyday bobbie for a few years.

Today’s copper needs to be able to talk their way out of anything, or in some cases, in to something. They need to be educated to University level during their initial training, they need to be a social worker, criminal law solicitor and law enforcement officer, all in one.

i suspect youre not a short person.
i suspect youre British.
i suspect your 'straight'.

i suspect you had no chance from the outset!

i left the mob. applied for the Met, passed all their tests, got a training date and course notes for Hendon. 3 days before i was due to start they wrote to say they wern't proceeding with my application.... no explanation offered!

My mate from one of their crime squads said they just dont want ex squaddies any more. they want to get away from the force and make it appear to be a pc service. had i been as 4 ft foriegn lesbian- id have walked it!
