Hello fellow Gunners ! I'm smudge , I'm 25 and I'm a full screw on 51 . Currently in the stan , I've served 7 years on 34, 27 and 51 I've PVRD for family reasons. I want to get on the circuit as a CPO when I'm out in Jan 14 . I'm back in uk around november so I basically have a year to square my life away when I get back . If you could give me some advice to a fellow rock I'd really appreciate it as I want to find out everything I can about this. I heard that age could be against me? I'm 5ft 8 so quite a short arse too and I have also been told that might go against me? Anyway any advice is awesome , cheers Smudge

You say you are PVRing for family reasons. The first thing you should know is that this line of work brings neither family, nor financial stability. It's a tough old world out here at the moment, and many highly qualified/experienced guys are struggling. I wouldn't see it as a 'solution' by any means. Rather, it can make life very complicated ! My first bit of advice would be to stay exactly where you are, but to try and prolong your career in the Regt with a posting/commission/courses, or another long term plan that will genuinely brighten your outlook. Being self employed and chasing jobs/contracts isn't easy by any means.

There are tons of threads on courses, qualifications, employment prospects etc on this website that might guide you.

Wise words indeed. I think there are probably few on this forum, who haven't fretted wondering when that next job or paycheck is coming in..Being 5"8 will be the least of your problems, believe me...er I'm 5"8
