Hi all,

My name is El, I'm 27, female and currently in the Army. I've applied for early release and fingers crossed should be leaving this July 2012, after 9 years of service in the Royal Signals as a Communications Systems Operator.

I'm interested in resettling in the Close Protection Industry and I'm seeking information on what in your opinion is the best CP course out there.

Any info on what to expect as regards the course and job prospects on completion as a female CPO.

Thanking you in advance, El ;)

el85,
Get your pistol and foreign weapon skills sorted if you are looking to work in CP concealed carry/armed abroad.Try Euro Tactical.

FCO are always looking for female staff in Afghan and Iraq.

The only courses you will have to do is a Hostile Enviroment Close Protection Course with weapons package and your First Person On Scene Intermediate (FPOSI) then apply for your Security Industry Authority (SIA) Close Protection badge.

Another route you can go as well is watchkeeper in Afghan and Iraq due to your signals background if things are a bit slow to start.

You won't have to do any concealed weapon courses. Remember everyone will try and get your money before you deploy but there isn't much you need to spend on.

If you need any advice give me a PM as I have a few female friends who are CP Operators.

Thankyou for the info , much appreciated!

I'm at the point where I'm really set on making this carreer move and just need to find the right company to gain the quals.

Thanks both for taking the time to write back to me,

Kind Regards, El

Scartissue,

I'm not permitted to PM you for some reason, so have friend requested you.
Any advice you or your female CP operators could offer me would be great!

Thanks

El

Welcome to the world of being a female CP, Ive been one for 30 years and am always happy to see younger new blood enter our field of work. Firstly research the CP companys ring them and ask questions about their instructors, see if they are also operators. Also consider doing a surveilance course as well. If you decide to do european work instead of HE you will find that being trained in both CP and surveilance will keep you in work 48 weeks of the year as opposed to the CP Season of April to September. I am now very tired after a 16 hour day so forgive the typos.

Thanks for taking the time to reply FBG after a long days work, it's appreciated.

The advice of doing surveillance aswell as CP is good, I'll look into that,

Just trying to find the best deal between quals and price (as well as reputation) as I am paying for my own resettlement with a top up of ELCs. The joys of getting early release!

Thanks again el

Would agree with fbg, if you wish to work on the U.K, European circuit surveillance combined with C.P is a good bet.
We run C.P courses every second month in Spain and are geared towards the executive protection market not HE.
Reputation wise, we have been operating as a training provider for 18 months and have been blessed by the calibre of candidates that have attended our courses (50% of candidates on each course come from a mil background), I firmly believe that this is what makes the difference between a training provider with a bad rep and one with a good rep.
In excess of 90% of our previous candidates are in regular work, some doing maritime, some surveillance, some HE and some executive on the U.K circuit.
Drop me a message if you would like an info pack and good luck with your transition.

Hi El.

With regards to your nine years of service, I would suggest you contact your careers advice resettlement officer for the latest on resettlement and the companies that provide ELC.

http://www.closeprotectionworld.com...g-questions/16620-advice-service-leavers.html

Or maybe push out another three years for your half pension?
Think, you have already given nine years so another three would at least give you some pay back etc.

Also your time in the Royal Signals should prove well in regards to your telecommunications quals for future employment etc.

There are plenty of Training providers that work in conjunction with ELC / retraining for your life outside of the military.

Good luck for the future.

Hi El,

I was in a similar situation as you this time last year, as an ex military female. I did the TASK International CP course which is based in Ashford which was a brilliant course. They are attached to an operational company which I have had work from in the meantime.

I wish you luck in whatever you decide is the best path for you but do not hesitate to PM me for any further information.

Thankyou Dance with the Devil for the advice, have already got info on ELCs and will learn more about which companies will accept on CTW course the end of this month :) No way am I pushing out 12 years!!! The decision has been made, have pressed the button and asked for early release in July. The advice to Service leavers link was especially helpfull!
Thankyou also SSilverstar for the info, I will definately pick your brains this week if you don't mind! I'll PM you.
Thanks Kelemansa will look into the company you recommended!!!

El,

I too am about to leave the Military - I have served 12 years with the RAF and am due to leave in August.

Using my resettlement, I am to start a course in March with Wilplan Training Ltd which may be of interest to you - here are some of the Q's you'll take away...

BTEC Level 3 Award in Close Protection Operations
ASAA Certificate in Foundation Handgun Techniques
FPOS Intermediate – Tactical First Responder

The weapons handling takes place in Geneva!!
I've attended the Open Day and it looks awesome, intense but awesome. It's 21 days' continuous training and the price includes everything you can think of - Oh, and the hotel is situated right next to a theme park!! :o) x
