UN Ban on Firearms

SCT is right, this is a country by country legislative issue... The only issue in the 'UK' at this time is the Licensing of Airweapons in Scotland which has been in the statutory framework for sometime now... and it seems (and I use that word because I am unsure of the 'Facts') that the Licensing will only include rifles of 12'lbs [standard]... 20'lbs is already an FAC 1 item.

CD

There is some absolutely ridiculous stuff being touted here at the moment on this issue. I'll post a link to the report later, but it will basically ban all shooting sports and a lot of already licensed firearms.

I really haven't heard anything about it, anyone care to eloborate? Our gun laws are tight enough compared to some, the BASC will not let it happen hopefully. How do these liberals fly with only a 'left wing'?

Shooting is a sport that millions of people enjoy.

I hope I have got the wrong end of the stick and I've taken the original post wrong. They couldn't ban firearms in the UK could they? A lot of people I know own guns that run into thousands of pounds each, are they just going to take them away? Might as well steal my car... Take the wife as well, (please do)

I hope I've got this wrong but take the wife anyway ;)

Even if a few members on here believe we have given up any right to bare arms the BASC have alot of clout and there is no chance in hell they would allow a blanket ban. Its a serious revenue stream for many rural parts of the country

The left wingers here wanted to follow the UN ban on guns. We made em stuff it. Screw the UN and their global policing idealogy. All they really are is a global bank to dole out cash to the undeserved. JMO of course.

I'm glad because I have been putting together a rail gun after vis's comment last year. now I'm sure the rules only apply to propellant, compressed and string/ballista based weapons (I hope)

All they really are is a bunch of leaches enjoying the good life in their offices, paid by our taxes. A bit like politicians, but supra-national.

Rather a sweeping statement there SCT!

Whilst there may be some truth to what you allude to, the millions of people in UNHCR camps around the world fleeing conflict may disagree a little :)

Conflicts that are perpetuated by the UN's inaction. The UN is a corrupt organization that sees itself as the world's police, but stands by while atrocicities are committed right under it's nose - eg Dutch/Bosnia

Not wholly disagreeing with you, just sweeping statements are inaccurate.

And lets not go there with who thinks they are the world police!

In Turkey at the moment, hundreds of thousands of people are living in camps, being displaced by the advance of IS. Its great that IS are having the shit bombed out of them, but there are side effects of this- people. Then someone has to take care of them.

I don't think the UN should be blamed for the rise in IS, the collapse of the western trained Iraqi army (wasted billion of dollars there). Failed foreign policy of some western governments in the ME should be called into question.

The UN bears some responsibility for the rise of modern islamic terrorism due to it's pointlessness and ineffectuality resulting in individual government's inability to act unilaterally for fear of being seen as the agressors.

Having spent a lot of time in the ME, in particular in Kuwait and Iraq, it amazes me why anyone ever thought the Iraqi military would hold together after the withdrawal in the first place. As for failed foreign policy......... all western governments, especially the U.S. and UK, have failed to understand the threat and the nature of the enemy. It's a sad day when only the French and the Russians have the balls to call a spade a spade.

Political correctness and the lack of strong leadership with the will to act will be the downfall of western civilization

As charlton Heston said they'll have to prise my collection from my cold dead hands!!!

Basc by the way are ok but aren't the force some people seem to think they are.

I have two co-workers who went to Kosovo to be detectives under the supervision of the UN. Both are very pro active in their job. They were told to stand down on just about every major investigation they started. In the end they played video games for 3 years because they werent allowed to do their job which was policing. They said it was the most frustrating thing to sit back and do nothing when crimes were committed in front of them or they had cause to make arrests. Even though they were paid sick money they said it wasn't worth it in the end.
