Union Jack ban defied by armed police

Great original post and some really good points well made there after. As most on here will be aware, I am a 'porridge wog' and proud of it! My son is also of that ethnicity and serving with a Scottish Infantry Unit as a part of the British Army. They have the cross of St Andrew on their vehicles, however, the Union Flag on their uniforms.I am also aware that just having returned from Asscrackistan, some of the English based County Regiments did express a desire to have the Cross of St George on their vehicles, they were told that it would not be permitted as the memories were of the Crusaders and the shields with the Cross of St George on them. Now, call me sceptical, but weren't the Crusades some time ago?...Like maybe 500 years give or take?...I don't think that any one has a memory that good!!

Back to the original point of the Polis at Heathrow, as has already be said, stick together and give it to the bosses in words of not more than 2 syllables!!

Supporting my son and his unit The Black Watch, 3 Scots on their tour in Afghanistan. Stay safe guys we are proud of you.

A statement has been posted on the Mets Intranet homepage guys. The Commissioner has said that he fully supports all our troops serving and says that although it may go against uniform standards and regulations he thinks that officers should show their support. He has therefore said that the wearing of Union flag pin badges on uniform is now allowed!
HOORAY! A bit of common sense for once I think!
Well done guys at ID for sticking to your guns. Its a real moral victory I think!

Call me an old cynic, but I'm not convinced that the commisioner did it out of a sense of duty, or because he thought it was the right thing to do, or for that matter, because common sense prevailed.

I suspect it's more likely that the Met seniors, were quite rightly embarassed by the publicity, so did an about turn to save face.

However it occured, it's without doubt the right decision, and I salute the ID officers who took a stand.

I have followed this story with great amazement since it first appeared in the papers. I do realize that I am a yankee as we are called but I thought I would throw my 2p in on this discussion. Yes I do realize that this is England before you remind me.

I am shocked that the flag of this country is treated in such disrespect. If someone finds the flag to be offensive then they should seriously consider moving their nationality somewhere else.

When I was in the police we always wore the flag on the sleeve of our uniform. Yes I do realize that this was in the states. However, it should apply here as well. The police are the representative of the public and the public are members of this great nation. I am glad that they stood up for themselves and for this country. If someone finds that offensive then they should go somewhere else. The flag was always flown infront of government buildings, any place where the public were legally gathered i.e. sporting events etc.

One of the things quite odd as well is that there are no flags flying in the streets, no flags flying on houses etc. When the war starts over there the flags fly on every light post (in the city I am from) and when they appear to look worn they are removed and replaced. I have been to several sporting events and not often is the flag even flown.

People should remember this fact "the reason you enjoy your freedom is because of the blood, sweat and tears of the men and women who serve and have served this nation in the armed forces". If you are offended then so be it. Yes I do know I am a yankee so no need to remind me.

Right now, well I'm feeling very racist because of this shit.
My wifes grandfather came to this country from Italy and in order that all his family intergrated he declared that Italian was not to be spoken again.
'We are British NOW' was his opinion.
He was eternally grateful to Britain for saving him from abject poverty and hunger.
We are to blame for this fiasco, as we let it roll on, unchallenged.
I think a line has been drawn,
and its time to defend our way of life,
Our Country,
and Our Flag.
Well done gentlemen.

Just an idea for anyone serving...... I know its not the union flag but I think its well worth a look. Norfolk Police have said that the H4H wristbands are not suitable for officers to wear but got off their arse and have produced these for all officers to display on their body armour instead....

A good cause me thinks and well in line with what the boys at Heathrow were wearing....

Royal Launch for Police Pin Badge

Any ideas where or how we can buy one? Have checked the Norfolk Job website but still got no clues. I never was cut out to be a detective though! Hee, hee!

I have searched too on the tinterweb with no joy..... But 'apparently' they are going to be sent out to Fed reps at each Ocu soon for purchase.....

I originally wrote a huge post here, I have now condensed it to "grrrrrrrrrr"

Christ how many of those have I written and not posted.
You just get frustrated and a bit unnecessary in the end, and give up before you get too offensive.

i dont know if this is the same original incedent,i was on a job in london with some met officers in support and got chatting.i have a large union jack tattoo on my forearm, and we talked about tats he told me of an incedent were people made similiar complaints about officers they stood thier ground and in the end a high ranking police officer stepped in and said it would be accepted and they could wear union jack badges.so as far as he was aware they were having to asses the tattoo/union jack question.and it must be true because a police officer told me:)..........

The only way I've found of getting one of the help for heroes police badges is to get a friend in the Norfolk Police to send you one. You may also be able to get one if you ask a friend from norfolk to go into the Police Station with three quid, and just ask at the front desk.

If you go into any branch of Specsavers they have loads of H4H type stuff from usual wristbands to tie pins, tax disc holders everything, so loads of ways. Also you could try the official H4H website, or ping them an email they may be able to assist you with what you are looking for

Annie, I think people are getting confused with H4H stuff and the original lapel badges of the thread. i.e. Union Flags.
